Ivy’s??

So, I have a secret goal of getting into an Ivy, but I have no idea if I meet qualifications, so if anyone has an idea if they think I will get in or if anyone has advice on how get in/ has knowledge to share about how they got in that would be great to hear!!! P.s I am a sophomore So… here’s what I do/ awards I have gotten
I skipped 8th grade
I have 98% psat scores
I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA
No AP scores yet b/c my school is limited but I will graduate with 7 scores
I am two years ahead in math class (pre-calc as a sophomore)
I am all-state in cross country and will be team captain next year and senior year
I have my school’s 3200m track record (broke it as a freshmen)
I am president of a mentoring club
I am a representative for student council
I am treasurer of my school’s Rotary Interact club
I got chosen to be in my school’s Be Nice program
I am a sailing instructor in the summers and got most improved on my team last season
I got into a UofM medical camp that’s prestigious
I’m in environmental club
I am going on a mission trip to El Salvador (with my own money- not my parent’s)
I got 1st rating at solo and ensemble for my choir solo and made it to state
I am a member of a youth democratic women’s caucus

You are certainly well on your way, but the reality is that many will reject 90-95% of applications, most of which are well qualified.

So a couple of things:
• Prep for SAT/ACT striving for 1500/33+
• AP scores won’t matter, and the college will evaluate your schedule in context of what the school offers; if the offerings are limited, you won’t be penalized.
• No college cares about your awards prior to HS.
• Some things that are unique within your region are not unique to Ivy League colleges (e.g. skipping a grade, being advanced in math)
• Research additional colleges and ensure that you have a mix of financially affordable matches and safeties. There are plenty of colleges that will provide as solid an education and experience as an Ivy League school.

Good luck.

Your track & cross country times may get you additional consideration.

Are you ranked nationally in any event ?

Which U of M ? Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Manhattan, etc. ?

I am ranked top 10 in the state I live in, and I am the first sophomore in the state for cross country. Nationally, I was top 100 last year for my track time for all freshmen. And, I am top 500 for both cross country and track all-around. And university of Michigan for the medical camp, which is free of tuition by the way!

You need to keep improving in track & cross country, maintain excellent grades, earn high SAT/ACT scores, excel in choir &, maybe, engage in public speaking.

Also, expand your target schools beyond the Ivy League. Much will depend upon what your intended major area of study is & what your other preferences are. For example, even though Columbia & Dartmouth College are both members of the Ivy League athletic conference, they are dramatically different schools. One is rural & moderate to conservative, while the other is urban & ultra liberal.

Chances are lousy…because they’re ivy league schools  You definitely have a shot. Don’t put your hopes and dreams on it because you’re looking at a 5 to 7% chance of getting in.
