Ivy vs non-

Would it be easier to maintain a high GPA (3.6+) and to find more research/leadership/internship opportunities at an Ivy or at a lesser known, yet still academically solid, university?

it depends on which academically solid university you’re talking about.

I was speaking in very general terms… but more specifically I was talking about schools such as American U or Northeastern U.

I am not talking about state schools, but those universities that are a little underrated and seem to attract above average, but not the top-crust, type of students.

i know northeastern is notorious for their co-op program. so i think internship opportunities would be pretty good there.

i don’t know anything about american u.

I knew that as well.

If anyone can answer my question, I’d be very appreciative.

Well I think I’ve made it perfectly clear how I feel about it on your previous thread. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

No matter what, the Ivy League schools will always invite and attract a certain level of prestige and recognition. The degree of that prestige and recognition is entirely subjective, but in my personally opinion, I would choose any of the Ivy Leagues over American University. But that is just my opinion.

It will probably be harder to make a high gpa at an Ivy, but easier to get research/internship opportunities.

From what I’ve heard through admissions sessions, somewhere in the area of 95% of Yale science majors will conduct research as undergrads. No idea how this compares to the schools on your list, but it seemed like a worthwhile contribution.

It also depends on the Ivy…

Princeton has serious grade deflation.
Harvard has legendary grade inflation
Brown has a very liberal grading system and no required courses
Columbia has a large Core curriculum of required courses that could hurt one’s GPA

Yale, Penn, Cornell, Dartmouth also have grade inflation but not to the extent of Harvard

I heard Cornell had deflation. I know my dad went to harvard and he always says that getting a’s at harvard was a joke. He blazed and drank his way through college and somehow graduated magna.
