Ivys + Top Schools: Which looks better in their eyes?

Very high SAT + very high ACT + 2 very high subject tests

OR

Very high SAT + 4 very high subject tests

I have no clue, but I’d assume the high SAT + high ACT would be stronger because they’re both more general and demonstrate proficiency in a well-rounded array of subjects as opposed to the subject tests that allow you to choose to only illustrate your strong points.

Very high SAT with 4 very high sat II’s.

Of you did well on everything send it in. Honestly when everyone analyzes what they like more, there is no “code”, when they pick up your application they knownif your right for the schools. Everyones got a shot if they have As and a decent SAT score. It’s all a gamble don’t worry about it. Send in what you want.

Very high SATs + very high SAT IIs + very high GPA=acceptance anywhere.

Come on, really? Test scores are just a part of the equation. Taking ten zillion standardized tests, of any kind, only shows one part of your qualification for college; you know how with sunscreen, anything over 50 is just marketing? It’s the same with tests. Very high SATs and a couple very high SAT IIs, or very high ACT, turn the page: what else are you offering?

I don’t think it really matters so long as they’re all high. Schools show no bias against the ACT or SAT, so if you do manage to score well on all the standardized tests you take, it’ll only serve as an advantage.

No mary High SAT’s and GPA is not really “acceptance anywhere”. Though I do agree GPA is VERY important.

Kieran: that was sarcasm, implying that it was silly to try to reduce admissions to “top schools” to a formula.

Yeah, I think I get the picture now. But just to clarify, in no way was I implying that “Very high SATs + very high SAT IIs + very high GPA=acceptance anywhere.” I was simply trying to get your opinions on that ONE ASPECT of the admissions process…

High SAT + High ACT. Subject tests aren’t as important.

I don’t think you’re required/expected to submit both ACT and SAT along with 4 subject tests. I think anything beyond the required 1 test+2 subject tests won’t help you very much

Very high SAT + 4 subject tests

The SAT and the ACT are viewed similarly, while the subject tests demonstrate further competency in various subjects. These help prove you’re capable of more practical problem sets, especially if you submit scores for science and math.

Just wondering, if u have decent grades, are ec really important

I don’t think either would make or break you since there are no schools that require 3 SAT IIs anymore. At that point, they’d care more about the rest of the application.

It also depends on what the subject tests are. I think good subject tests in let’s say… a combination of World History and Physics is just as impressive, if not more than, having Math, Chem, Physics and Bio. Subject tests are used to show that you’re good at certain subjects, but I think they would have deduced you’re good at math/science after you did well on Math and Chem.

New question: Which looks better: ACT + 3 STs or SAT + 3 STs? (Assuming all are very high scores)

ACT / SAT are interchangeable…colleges will use whichever is higher (if they want you). Subject tests only matter at specific schools / specific majors.

What does the school require?

Most schools require EITHER the ACT with writing OR the SAT with TWO subject tests.

So pick one. It doesnt matter. Theyre all high so it won’t matter.
