J&K+8 look out

You might be joining the unemployment list and with that big new house to payoff.

[News | Lynchburg News Advance](http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/O/OCTUPLETS?SITE=VALYD&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT)

You mean TLC didn’t pay for the house??

Barrons, I thought of J&K when I heard this news, too. I really hope that these parents choose not to exploit their kids the way that J&K have. I will admit that I used to enjoy watching their show and seeing those darling children but after reading too much about them personally, I can’t bring myself to watch any longer.

alwaysamom -I’m almost afraid to ask, but what have you read about them personally? I know there are people who don’t like Kate, but I could never judge someone’s parenting skills who has eight kids, and all appear to be healthy and mostly well-mannered (although Maddie is a brat).

teri, I think there may have been a discussion about this here on CC before, but it was several articles about how Jon & Kate have cut almost all of their family members out of the lives of their children, many since the time that the sextuplets were born. I had read about this previously, and always wondered why any grandparent would possibly not want to be involved with those beautiful children. Then when Kate banished her brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Jodi, who had been a huge part of the kids’ lives (and often on the show), that was it for me. Along with that issue, the fact that they were travelling around to churches, charging appearance fees, and then asking for ‘love offerings’ (meaning $$$) from the parishioners, really made me ill.

When and why did Kate banish Kevin and Jodi? That’s very sad to me. I don’t always rush to judgment if someone is estranged from family, because there can be all kinds of really legitimate reasons for it–abuse, neglect, perhaps racial intolerance. Kate always has these weird little asides about her childhood that make it sound like it was not a good situation-or perhaps she’s crazy.

I just can’t stop thinking about the poor woman who gave birth to the 8 babies! Weights ranged from 1.5 lbs to 3 and a change! Yikes. At, let’s say, 2 lb/kid times 8 - that’s 16 pounds of pure baby weight… Add the placentas and all the other wonderful stuff and you get the picture! From the article on CNN it sounds like the babies are breathing on their own, which is a very good sign.

I thought there was a huge ‘reunion’ with Jon’s family when they repeated their wedding vows in Hawaii. They all seemed to be getting along.

Back to the topic at hand, this California woman has also said she plans to nurse all eight kids. OK… I’ve heard of nursing twins, and tandem nursing, but can you imagine the amount of food she’d need to eat to produce that much milk! Even so, if she can pump for as long as possible, it is by far the best, especially for premies. A mother’s body produces milk with specific properties, depending on the gestational age of the babies when they’re born, and what is most important for that baby’s survival; this is very significant for premies.

I may be totally out of date, but are there still milk banks where nursing mothers can donate for preemies or others who need it?
Probably too many legal questions now…but nursing 8 is going to need help…

yes, I think there are, but not very many; donors are carefully screened.

your question prompted me to look:

Thank you for posting the site teriwtt. I wonder if there are any wet nurses nowadays. My own mother’s life was saved by her having one for about 2 years. They developed a close bond and I remember visiting her when I was a child.

Jodi’s sister had a blog about their issues with Kate, etc.

I hope TLC cancels the show. Even their editing can’t remove the underlying anger inside the home. She and Maddy need some serious therapy. Unless the world revolves around the two of them, they do everything in their power to make everyone else miserable.

Kate has managed to alienate everyone in their once close circle of family and friends. Jon is just as much to blame. He goes along with everything because of the money and free stuff. He gets his free ski trips and equipment. We can’t forget about his free hair transplant. She gets her free furniture, houses, clothing, tummy tuck, salon apts, and most of all–the attention that she craves.

How many more shows can they shoot about the four year olds still pooping on the floor? TLC–it’s time to drop the show.

More on topic—it’s amazing that the 8 babies are doing as well as has been reported. They’re all breathing on their own. I hope they continue to thrive.

If we each contribute $25 today maybe one of the 8 can go to college in 18 years.

Kate is narcissistic and Maddie has some sensory sensitivities and an attachment issue. (my .02). Jon is just happy to have someone to talk with other than Kate.

helenback, here is a previous discussion of Jon & Kate. One poster gave some information about the family estrangement. I have read similar stories elsewhere and happened to meet someone last fall who knows Jodi’s sister. It’s true that Kate no longer allows the children to see their aunt and uncle and their cousins.

I would like it if the media, including TLC would pay particular attention to the medical costs associated with high-order multiples. I’m not happy to pay through our insurance rates for people’s selfish decision to let fertility medicine run amock.

The mother of these 8 didn’t want her name or information released to the media, I doubt they will be looking for a TV show (I have never seen the Jon & Kate one).

To husky82 - there are a lot of medical issues caused by the patient’s own actions - it’s a good thing we don’t get to judge who gets care based on our opinions of their lifestyles, hobbies, weight, smoking, etc.

True…but being in the hospital for 2 months prior to the births, with a team of 46 medical professionals and all the care they’ll need after, I can guarantee that they’ll need money to pay those medical bills.

Check that…10:1 odds say the family doesn’t have medical insurance and the care is being subsidized with tax dollars.

UCBChemEGrad, families without health insurance usually do not splurge on fertility drugs and/or IVF. I doubt that this happened naturally.
