[Art History 101 - A Brisk Walk Through the Eras](A Quick Tour of Art Through the Ages) and Dummies through chapter 3 to briefly give and overview of the subject. By doing overviews, you will know what the major concepts are and know what to focus on later. Optional read through Annotated Mona Lisa and Annotated Arch.

Dummies and Barron’s will be your main texts. I know Dummies might seem like a bit of a stretch but honestly it’s a great book.

Use Gardner’s as your picture resource, Dummies doesn’t have many pictures and Barron’s tiny thumbnails are horrible. Gardner’s might seem to be a good resource to read but it’s way to breathy. The internet can be substituted, but it’s a pain to always study with a computer on and always having to look up a new work.

Basically, read a topic in Dummies, using Gardner’s for pics, then use Barron’s for the same topic. Dummies is for depth, and Barron’s is for breath and test prep. Use the website for extra test prep. Generally the more sources of information the better.

This system should work for ALL of European Art.

When you get to Non-European Art, read Barron’s and skim the corresponding works in Gardner’s. This isn’t the best way to cover to topics but it’s enough.

Take your time and REALLY read the texts, I find that it’s really easy to glaze over details that make this test one of the more difficult ones.

You should now have a really good knowledge of Art History.

Test Prep!
Re-do the review questions for each chapter in Barron’s and go over the essay questions.
Use the Cheat Sheet in Dummies to keep you focuses on major themes, review it once in a while.
Use the flashcard feature on the CD to review works. Don’t memorize it all! Use the CD for review.
Start compiling a list of 50 or so works from Europe, this list should have works from all ages, all mediums, and subjects. Study this list religiously.
Compile a list of 20 or so Non-European works, same idea.
The lists will be what you use to help write the long essays.
The short essays are all knowledge, they should come with general knowledge of art history, don’t worry about them.
Start doing the practice tests! Barron’s is kinda repetitive. Use College Board and other sources for extra practice if needed.
Spelling and memorizing is important devote at least a few week to memorizing works, and spelling.

After this you should be ready for the AP test. Good Luck!
