Jacques Steinberg Says Yes to New College-Knowledge Position

[Sally_Rubenstone]

Earlier this month, Jacques Steinberg, best known to CC members as author of The Gatekeepers and editor/writer of admissions blog, “The Choice,” announced that he would be leaving The New York Times after nearly a quarter century. On January 10, Steinberg wrote:

Like so many of the teenage readers of The Choice, I now enter a period of transition and reinvention. I’ve got some ideas on what I might do next, but this is not the time to discuss them.

This afternoon I learned that next week Steinberg will join [Say Yes to Education](http://www.sayyestoeducation.org/), a national, non-profit education foundation “committed to dramatically increasing high school and college graduation rates for our nation’s urban youth.”

According to the information I received today, Steinberg will:

… help grow the Say Yes Higher Education Compact, a program that partners higher education institutions with Say Yes to provide financial support in the form of college tuition for tens of thousands of Say Yes students.

Steinberg, using his decades of expertise and experience navigating the college-admissions world, will also create credible content to guide students, families, and counselors through the process of applying to college, applying for financial aid, and graduating with a postsecondary degree.

Members of the Higher Education Compact include the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Brown, Syracuse, Drexel and Colgate universities, Vassar College, SUNY, CUNY, and more than 100 public and private colleges and universities…

I have enjoyed sharing content from “The Choice” on College Confidential … and vice versa … and I’m sure that many CC students and, especially, parents join me in sending best wishes to Jacques Steinberg on his new endeavor.
