He arrived in this country four years ago barely speaking English. He not only mastered the language in the time it would take most people to finish a “some assembly required” project, he’s mastered the language of math and science and everything else he’s taken on, including the violin.

And he’s punctual.

On Thursday he graduated from East High summa cum laude, the highest of academic honors, tied at the top of his class with Alex Knapp. Come fall, he’s off to Princeton.

Thanks guys. I dunno how you found out about that article, Ptongrad2000, but thank you for deciding to post it on CC. So I mean, I’m doing pretty well on Alaska as the article says, but ppl, I’ll be going to Princeton. There WILL BE tons more people much more amazing than me who just happens to not have articles written on them. BUT, if any of you reads this article and goes, “oh wow he sounds cool. I want to meet him.” PLEASE have at it! You may be slightly disappointed that I’m a pretty average guy, but I certainly won’t be disappointed to make another friend. So far I know Marli, Alex, Matt, and Virginia. They’re totally awesome, and I want to meet more of you!

I think this is one of the most amazing things about Princeton, actually – anyone will seem completely chill and ordinary until you catch wind of what they’re really capable of. I think I’m going to have to run off to that “I feel inadequate” thread now… unlike Jae and others, I have no superpowers.

I had no idea that this story was about one of our own posters. Congratulations on your accomplishments, Jae! Im in awe of your focus and determination. To go, in a short four years, from barely speaking English to acceptance at a school like Princeton is incredible. I cant wait to see what youll accomplish in the future. May you go far. Princeton is lucky to have you!

i feel so underachieved … this article mad me sad and makes me feel like i don’t deserve to go to an ivy league school (which maybe i won’t get in)… but wow what an accomplished person… congrats on your accomplishements
