We are OOS and my son like the vibe on campus and felt the student body was really friendly. Is that truly the case on campus? We toured several schools and liked a few campuses but the “Dukes hold doors” was on display and gave a good vibe. Feedback on the student body are they super nice and also how difficult is it to get second year housing on campus.

I’ve been holding doors for 37 years. I carries on beyond JMU. Our older son graduated from JMU and our younger son is there now. We’re out of state as well. Both boys love JMU. The older one goes back to volunteer in Harrisonburg every month. The students are friendly, and they graduate as well rounded young adults.

Does anyone know when RD decisions are coming out?
Mid to late March.
The admissions site says mid to late March, but the last few years have been March 6 - 9th.

The deferred students page says early April for notification. Will they find out in March with RD decisions?
Good question. My son’s deferral letter said that his app has been deferred to the regular decision pool and that a final decision will be posted by early April. I assume they’ll hear along with the regular decision applicants, but this is new to me so not completely sure.
My daughter was deferred and reached out to her local admissions counselor. She told her that although the letter said decisions are in April, it would most likely be mid March. I believe deferrals will get a decision along with the regular decision applicants. The dates for the Choices admitted students are March 1, April 4 and April 11 so I would hope that we will have a decision in time to attend one of the April days. Otherwise, that seems unfair to not have an opportunity to attend.

Hoping to hear before the 4/4 date as we’re headed to Blacksburg for Hokie Focus and would like to combine the trip. Last year RD was 3/6.

FYI, my current Duke has this same message on his My Madison login page. They are transitioning to a new software platform I believe.
Parent’s Weekend is September 27th and 28th. Book hotels ASAP. You can always cancel them if your child decides not to attend JMU.
Anyone else confused why they deferred so many with a acceptance rate in the 70%? while my daughter doesn’t have the highest gpa it is competitive; along with a strong essay, ECS all four years. We are OOS - so maybe that is factor. She is my oldest so this whole process is eye opening
Any ideas on when RD will come out? It was the first Wednesday in March last year….
Total Undergrad applications continue to grow, so maybe the 70% acceptance rate is now lower? JMU’s popularity among new students continues to soar - JMU
