James Madison College and Spring Semester Freshmen

Does anyone know how the James Madison College first year program works for freshmen starting during the spring semester?

I’m aware MC 111-112 and MC 201-202 must be taken prior to other classes within the college. However, MC 111 and MC 201 are only offered during the fall semester and MC 112 and MC 202 are a continuation of the aforementioned classes which serve as prerequisites. As a spring entrant, I find this problematic. Am I to understand that I’m not eligible to take other James Madison courses until my junior year?

Is the first year program flexible? Does the college occasionally waive these prerequisites? Is it possible to drop in during MC 112 and 202 without taking their respective precursors? If possible, would this be a great disadvantage?

Are you currently in a community college? In my residential college, (RCAH), they work with you so that you don’t miss out on courses like that (or they waive them or make you take them concurrently), so that you don’t have to go for 5 years. I’m not sure exactly how it works in JMC, perhaps fa-la-la-lena could chime in or you might do better to just email them directly.

Good luck!

i’m sorry I have no idea…this is definitely something you’d want to speak to the college directly about. The first year program is definitely flexible though…so hopefully this will work in your favor (not disadvantage)
