Don’t know if this has already been asked, but does JMU have a lower admit rate for out of state applicants?
Putting that story on IG was in poor taste. If they want to keep the kids engaged, tell them when to check their portal. That was an unnecessary tease. My daughter called JMU admissions this am and the woman who answered said “they’re hoping to get the decisions out next week”. For the people who are planning on hitting refresh all day or setting an alarm to check at 6pm tonight, have fun! We will be playing in the snow!
I agree that it’s ridiculous to put that out on their IG account potentially a week before the notifications will come out. It’s particularly silly to have multiple pages of hype as if decisions are coming in an hour when, in fact, nothing had changed from the mid to late January date. Seems like a crude effort to generate clicks. If it’s not imminent, then just send an email to the applicants without unnecessary hype saying something like “As you know, announcements will come out in mid to late January. Please ensure you know how to log into your portal. We do not yet have an exact date when decisions will be released.”
How often do college age students check their email?
When they’re expecting decisions, I think many do check it frequently. Mine used his HS email account for his college apps. This is an email on which he receives communications from his teachers daily, so he has no choice but to check it.
Moving forward, perhaps the social media team might want to consider limiting the hype to only 24 hours before decisions are released and providing actual information such as date/time and not just vague statements. What was the point of all of that yesterday afternoon?
My son applied to UVA, and their admissions office was posting updates on decision time frames almost daily for weeks prior to the decision release dates in Instagram @uvadeanj. This non information by JMU is frustrating.
where is everyone seeing these notations about eIDs…???
Doesn’t everyone have that?
I noticed today that the IG post was removed…
IG stories automatically disappear after 24 hours
is there any chance that decisions could come out over the weekend?
I highly doubt it. Normally they don’t release stuff like decisions over a weekend. My bet is on Tuesday
Anyone know if when the decisions are released, does it include any info on Honors or merit? Or does that come later?
Merit tends to come later. My S (‘23 grad) received the Madison award the last week in March. I’m not sure about honors. My S did not apply for honors, as he wasn’t interested in the extra required classes, and he had around 60 DE credits going in and could register early with that.
It’s likely no one really knows, but any thoughts on if committing prior to merit being announced would impact getting merit?
If your student applied early action honors too, that should post along with the general admissions decision, and the honors page notes that if JMU defers admission, they will too.
Good luck! My son applied honors too.
Thanks! Yes she did the EA deadline and submitted the Honors app and scholarship app before their Nov deadline as well.
Good luck! Fingers crossed!
My mom saves everything and I was recently digging through a pile of my college stuff she saved for me. I am a proud JMU alum (class of 1998. Old I know!) and she had saved a JMU brochure where the application was in the middle of the brochure as a pull out you filled in by hand and sent in. Altogether I think it was four pages long. My how times have changed!
Anxiously waiting on my son’s EA application to JMU. Hoping he will choose to be a Duke just like his mama!
The scholarship form is a general one?
