James Madison vs. Minnesota-Duluth

I want to do MS in Computer Science, and two school have offered me full scholarship.

University of Minnesota at Duluth (not the famous twin-city campus)

James Madison University (in Virginia)

Which school has a better CS program? How about the reputation of them and which school have better job placement after graduation?

I need your advice badly, take care

I really can’t say much about computer science but I do know that overall James Madison University has a better reputation than Minnesota-Duluth.

James Madison is more prestigious and more well known nationally. You will get a good education at either institution though.

thanks for your comments

Good Luck with choosing and remember to pick the school you want to go into. Prestige isn’t better than your happiness.

Besides the overall school reputation being better (don’t know about their CS programs), James Madison has IMHO much better weather. Unless you’re used to it being very cold much of the school year, and potentially having lots of snow, Minnesota-Duluth would be a difficult fit for most international students. It’s also considered a lesser school in that state for those more concerned with drinking than studying.

Though you’d have to do some homework of your own to determine fit based on what’s important to you, I think it’s highly likely that JMU would be a better choice for you than UMD.

I, for one, have never even heard about Minnesota-Duluth (probably because I’m from California), so I’d go with James Madison.

I didn’t know there was a university named after James Madison. From the write-up in Fiske, I don’t see what’s so prestigious about it.

UMD has a hockey team, so them.
