<p>Photosynthetic would need light, and the question specified that little/no light was available. </p>
<p>Phytoplanktons are the producers of the ocean. It may have been chemotrophs, though.(they use organic substances, but, if I remember correctly, light is still required…)</p>
<p>I also got chemosynthetic bacteria, but I found this question somewhat confusing, because thermophilic bacteria can also be chemosynthetic. Hope chemosynthetic was right.</p>
