January 2010 SAT Results Thread

I am confused about the Math score. I assumed 770 was -1, 740 was -2. But Pramam0 posted he got a 790 on Math. Could that be right? Silverturtle, ideas?

He’s lying.

thanks, i wondered !!!

omg people need to stop crying when they get 2300… its so conceited

How is that in any way conceited?

congrats on the amazing SAT scores everyone!!!

For CR, my preparation consisted of the following:
[ul]
[]Three Blue Book practice tests at reduced time (~13-15 time limit for each 25-minute CR section)
[]Direct Hits Vocabulary
[/ul]

what was your CR method. How did you approach the passage questions?

Sorry, I have to go to a Mock Trial event now (for which I am somewhat late). I’ll try to type up something later.

no problem.

1st time taking it as junior w/ expensive test prep and still did bad…???

M: 740
W: 660 essay 10
CR: 560??
total: 1960?!?
any helpful tips on how to study/ improve?
apparently my test prep course didn’t help and when i took practice tests there, i got like 2140-2200 but on the real one 1960?!?!? please help if you have any ideas. thanks!
silverturtle any tips?

First time as a junior

CR: 600
M: 670
W: 690 with 11 essay
Total: 1960

I was hoping to break 2000 but I guess 1960 is ok for my first time =.

CR: 630
M: 660 lulz
W: 790 (75/11)
Total: 2080

First time as a junior with no prep. I don’t know, I expected more, but I guess I need to study next time -_-

OK so my score got delayed and i called collegeboard. the person told me that my answer sheet was going through some exceptional scoring system. the person did not have any detailed information but she thought that random tests were picked for this. Also if my test was somehow canceled by a proctor, I would have received an email right?

CR: 800
M: 800
W: 750 (fail!)
Total: 2350
wow, so many 2400s!

I wouldn’t recommend this for the average person. I tried to do that too, only to find myself skimming and assuming, not thinking deeply about the questions and eliminating wrong answers. In the end, it just taught me how to do the test lazily and without effort, not necessarily faster, and definitely not better.

I am definitely not the fastest CritRead tester; I take my time. Yet I didn’t have a problem with running out of time on the test. On the contrary, I went even faster during the real SAT out of nerves. With the time remaining, I checked my work extremely well to the point that I don’t think I missed a single CritRead question on the January SAT.

I got a 2400, and so did silverturtle. It may sound scandalous to contradict silverturtle, but I think that that method of constricting yourself is not healthy, ESPECIALLY not by almost half the time.

this is late, but -

2360!
790 reading
770 math
800 writing

I’m thrilled! It’s not the 2400 that so many people here seem to aspire to, but it’s pretty damn close! This was my first SAT, and I’m not retaking - so I’m happy.

I have the mirror image of your score, eldunari.

CR: 750
M: 800
W: 800 (Essay: 12)

I heard that several colleges don’t really care about writing scores, so I would have much preferred 800 on critical reading… Somehow, I always do quite well with grammar and writing. (I have a tendency of inferring some weird things from the text sigh)

Apparently, a lot of colleges are adopting ā€œtop scores on each sectionā€ policy on SAT. Should I take SAT again sometime?

In any case, congrats to several people with 2400!

Yeah, driftwood, I’m in the same boat (ha). This was my first time taking the SAT, although I’ve taken the PSATs twice, and I’m definitely going to stick with my 2360 and move on to the subject tests. I was worried at first that people who score-choiced a better score than me would get more ā€œcreditā€ in the eyes of the adcoms, but after a little research I found that many of the top schools (including my current favorite, Yale) require all test scores. I would imagine that taking the SAT only once and getting a 2360 reads better than a score-choiced 2380, compiled from 2-3 different tests. At least, that’s my take on it.

I would think so as well…and a 2360 is really good, not to toot my own horn or anything! I was expecting more like a 2200, because my math scores on practices had been significantly lower, so I was pleasantly surprised. I’m DEFINITELY sticking with it. Congrats!
