I got off the wait list last night at UC Berkeley and I was so thrilled because it has been my dream school for years now! Unfortunately, the Fall Program for Freshmen filled up before I got a chance to submit my SIR. I feel devastated because that totally shifts my plans for college. People say that January Start at Cal is still completely worth it! I am not sure what to do. I have submitted my SIR at UCSD as a backup but I really want to go to Berkeley. Is there anyone who did January start and can share from their experience?
It’s totally worth it. You have a “gap” semester, perhaps an opportunity to take courses at a local CC or continuing education courses at one of the UCs, or set yourself a self study program for a semester.
I think there is off campus housing too. My daughter’s best friend also was admitted for Spring and missed PFP but she somehow found off campus housing, I don’t have the specifics but a lot of people at Cal staying there the first semester in fall. But the parents had to drive there in person to find out.
For Berkeley January start, you can enroll in a community college in the fall. If you do so, use http://www.assist.org to see which courses are considered equivalent to Berkeley courses that you may want to take for your possible majors.
