Japanese Archaeology

I was hoping that someone would know of any American grad schools where there is a focus on Japanese archaeology. If there are none then maybe a general East-Asian Archaeology program. I have searched but can’t find any American ones that cover Japanese archaeology.

I happen to know that Oxford has the [Centre for Asian Archaeology](http://www.arch.ox.ac.uk/asia-people.html), in case you’d consider studying in the UK.

That aside, have you tried locating people (instead of graduate programs) that research the topics you are interested in? You could either ask the experts for suggestions on graduate programs, or just look at the graduate programs that they are affiliated with. (You probably won’t find a “Japanese Archaeology” PhD program in the US, but there probably are a number of general archaeology programs that also have a few specialists on East Asian archaeology.)

One way to find these experts is to browse through a journal of (East Asian) archaeology. Keep a list of the authors who write papers you care about. Here’s one journal to get you started: [ICEAACH | Publications](http://www.bu.edu/asianarc/publications.shtml)

Okay, thanks!
