Jean Stapleton dies.

Her character on All in the Family reminded me a lot of my mom. In a good way- mostly about how accepting she was.
Luckily my dad was nothing like Archie.
[Entertainers mourn Jean Stapleton: ‘A great actress and wonderful lady’ - CNN.com](http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/01/showbiz/jean-stapleton-death-reaction/index.html)

If it hadn’t been for Edith’s sweetness and absolute decency, I don’t think the show would have worked at all. It was a great portrayal.

Do you remember how Edith used to half-run through the house? In the last year, I have found myself doing that … really.

oh how sad. I was just watching, You’ve Got Mail, and was wondering how she was doing.

What a wonderful lady.

The tribute to Jean Stapleton on Sunday Morning today was really touching. What a wonderful actress and a groundbreaking show. She will be missed.

I haven’t heard her voice outside of the show. Was the screechy voice a put on for the show or did she sound anything like that in real life? If so, I admire her even more.

Sadly another one from that era has signed off.

The Edith voice was a performance. She starred in many other roles without that voice.

“He ran Spain.” One of my favorite movies to watch over and over again, and her performance is one of the reasons.

^^^^I agree. I loved that movie, mainly due to her performance. Tom Hanks was good, too.

My high school friends often said that my mom was a lot like Edith. At the time, this embarrassed me because I thought they were noting her “denseness” and subservience to Archie (my dad bore some similarities to Archie as well.)

Now I choose to see their observances likening my mom’s eagerness to reach out to others and her desire to see the good in others as the connection to Edith.

Lots of stay at home moms of that era were humble and accomodating of others. Their role was to love and support everyone in their home. Jeanne Stapleton gave us an iconic character in Edith and has helped me to put my mother’s role in perspective.

“I bought Intel at 6.”

I just watched the last episode of AITF on YouTube. In my memory Archie and Edith are older grandparents. In fact, the look young to me now. Well, she does.

My father always said my mom’s mom was like Edith. At the time I heard it as a criticism but now I can see it, in a nice way.
