Jeans for tween - help!

I’m looking for suggestions on places to get a pair of skinny jeans for a slim, 5 foot tall 12 year old. She currently wears a 12 or a 14. Her Mom tends to shop at Macy’s and Penneys. Would these sizes translate to a size 0 or 2? We do not live in an area that has forever 21 or H & M.

abercrombie, amercian eagle - both can be ordered on line

My kids get all their jeans at Old Navy (and have since they were about 12). Me, too  Also… Sears actually has a very large selection in our area (but our Sears is in Mall of America, so that may affect the selection in a positive way).

But as you probably know, it is SUPER hard to buy jeans without trying them on.

Kohl’s could work too - they have Levi’s and other brands. But yeah, I can’t imagine buying jeans for my 13 year old without her being able to try them on.

She would probably like some Escada jeans: [The Most Expensive Jeans - Forbes.com](Best Jeans For Women 2023 - Forbes Vetted)

They START at $7500 a pair and go up from there.

Try delias on line.

Both sets of my nieces are tiny. They both prefer Abercrombie kids but also find pants at Old Navy. Both sets are always in skinny jeans.

juniors sizes won’t necessarily fit someone who is only 5’. Look for those that at least come in short-med- tall lenghts- although I wear a 30" inseam in my levi 501s, the jcrew short jeans are often a little too long.
I agree with old navy. they have lots of cuts & sizes.

Concur with old navy and delias online - both offer shorter lengths (Delias often has at least one wash in the store in a shorter length so she can them on first). Gap also has shorter jeans on line.

Thanks for the suggestions. My daughter said Old Navy, but I didn’t believe her.

skinny jeans for the truly skinny, tween will not work from Delias or from American Eagle…these brands presume that the girl has hips. Abercrombie is horribly expensive but were the only brand that worked for my 5’2" 80lb long-legged tween. Only girls with this very special build can wear them and the time that they can actually wear them brief. It killed me to buy them but I have passed them onto her cousin with a similar build. Recently, D marched into the kitchen to accuse unknown people of doing her laundry and putting said expensive jeans in dryer (she air dries her expensive clothes) because now they are all too tight…welcome to hips darling!

My 14 year old has been wearing target circo 12 and 14 slims - the 12s are now too small and the 14s are big. These are not cool jeans…they are for bumming around the house, and horseback riding because they are soft and a little loose. We desperately needed some new jeans.

I believe she qualifies as a 'tween, size wise - I’d say 5’3 and 90 lbs. She has no hips, and as we say, no be-donk. She really needed some better jeans…we found a pair at American Eagle, skinnies, in size 2 that fit her. The zero was definitely too small. We also bought their skinny cargos. So there is probably a pair there for your tween. She took the ‘regular’ length, but there was a shorter length.

This was the easiest pants shopping I have ever done for her.

We will have to try Old Navy!

Kathiep, are you trying to buy them as a gift or for a girl who will be with you to try them on? If the former, I suggest a gift card or cash. Old navy has great prices and lots of choices. Tweens in my area (although 12 might be pushing it) also sometimes shop at Justice, which replaced the overpriced Limited Too that I had to deal with when mine were that age.

This is a friends daughter who I have a good relationship with. She’s a wonderful nice girl, but an only child and doesn’t want to hurt her Mom’s feelings by suggesting that she shop some place else, but is very frustrated at not being able to find jeans that fit. From shopping with my own petite daughter, and having similar problems myself as a youngster, I feel for her and would love to come up with some practical suggestions.

kath, is she in our area? There is a forever21 at the LV mall… I believe it’s on the 2nd floor. i’m not sure about their sizing but might be something to check out for her. Also the Old Navy over by your place probably has something… I have a 12 year old cousin about her size, I’ll ask her where she gets her clothes.

Thanks fendergirl, yes, local to our area and I was happy to hear so many people say Old Navy because that’s very close. I never get to the mall anymore so I’m not as familiar with the stores.

If you go over to the Old Navy let me know, Maybe I’ll meet up with you. I’ve been wanting to go to NY&Co which is right near by. :)

Abercrombie was the only place to fit my 00 sized D2. Hated the advertising but truly the only place that could fit her.

My 11 yo is about 4’10" and 88lbs. I buy her size 0 at most of the “cool” stores and sometimes buy her capris so the pant legs aren’t too long.

Don’t shoot me…but madewell and lucky brand also have skinny jeans that will fit the skinny tween (honestly anyone over the age of 20 needs to see a dietician and perhaps rehab if they can fit into these) but then you are going down the slippery slope of outrageous brand name prices. My now-teen (used old navy slims until about 12 but then was just too leggy and we had the abercrombie years …as her legs got longer and her taste became more pricey and she became a babysitter I give her about $40 for a pair and she pays the rest) used a significant portion of her gift money to get a pair of these…she is now 5’5" or more (all legs but still not much curve) and perhaps 100 lbs. When they are skinny as tweens and then hit the growth spurt they just stretch…curves probably won’t come until 17 or so.
