Jeans out? Skirts back in?

Are my eyes deceiving me? I was in Boulder, Colorado for the weekend - a huge college town, but this is still summer - and in the crowds on the Pearl Street Mall there was not a pair of jeans in sight!!! Hundreds of people and the style for women (young and old) seemed to be skirts or summer dresses. As a male, this is a good sign. Is this happening everywhere? Did it already happen and I’m just way behind the times? If I had stock in Levi’s, I be selling now.

I think it’s a summer thing. Jeans are nice but get HOT in the summer…especially if they’re a dark wash. Everyone I know still wears lots of jeans.

Jeans are very hot for the summer. My girls are in summer dresses, skirts, and shorts. Shorts/dresses with short boots are in with my 18 year old. Come fall it will be skinny jeans and thick tights (pants) with boots or ballet flats.

Jeans will never go out, but dresses are definitely in and they are getting longer.

dude… you expect us to wear jeans when its like 100 degrees out? lol no.

Summer dresses and skirts are big, and have been for the past 4-6 years. Revisit Boulder in late October and it’ll be back to wall-to-wall jeans. Enjoy while you can :)

Skirts, yes! Why do you think bagpiper’s wear them? Air flow. :)

:)

I like kilts on men, if they have the legs for them.
Ds former roommate wears them, but when he finishes his Phd he will probably have to leave Portland he says and then he will have to get a real wardrobe.
;)

There was someone at my school who wore a kilt every day. More power to you man.

My DD and her close friends wore dresses or skirts throughout their junior and senior years of high school. I think leggings and bare legs in summer make it much more user friendly to go with dress/skirts over jeans.

When DH and I were hiking on the Appalachian Trail in June, we saw a male hiker wearing a kilt.

Most of the guys in the office are wearing shorts this summer - that’s fairly normal. People wear whatever is comfortable unless they have something to hide I guess. There are a fair number of women that wear jeans/pants all the time - I assume that it’s skin-related stuff.

My daughter decided several years ago that jeans didn’t flatter her body type (hourglass figure with the muscular thighs of an athlete) and has a wardrobe of dresses for all occasions. In the winter she’ll wear a dress with thick tights and boots and in the summer she’ll wear a pair of spandex shorts under a dress for cycling. Her go-to site for shopping is Modcloth, but she also likes Ruche and Shabby Apple.

I know someone like this but she also has thicker ankles and calves - she always wears long pants, even when working out.

let’s face it, we are getting fatter and fatter. skirt is much easier to wear with the stomach bulging out, especially they do not make them with waist bands anymore, did you notice that? Another adjustment to heavier population. Poor guys do not have this option. Who said that we are equal? Women are definitely more priviliged. And in a summer, to cover your legs is insane torture.

Guys don’t need this option. It’s okay for guys to be fat - society doesn’t judge men on weight that much.

"Guys don’t need this option. It’s okay for guys to be fat - society doesn’t judge men on weight that much. "
-Who cares fat or not? I was talking about great inconvenience wearing pants with the stomach bulging out as well as a torture wearing long pants in a summer.
We do not discuss what society think and what not, we discuss why skirts are making come back. If you think that society is at fault, then yes, society will not tolerate man coming to the office in skirt. but it will not stop women from wearing them.
I dis not understand you post, please, clarify how fat men can influence women wearing skirts vs pants.

BCEagle–I don’t know about that. Did you see the New York Times article in Sunday’s style section about men dieting and working with a trainer before their weddings? I think women expect men to be putting in the same effort to look trim and fit.

With women’s economic independence, they no longer have to settle for for a pudgy man simply because he has a decent job. In business, tall men earn more, and I bet there is also a correlation with athleticism.

Miami-It’s fine if the discussion wanders into new territory. There is not much else to say about women in skirts- they wear them in summer. They wear them less often in the icy cold . Not really news.

The original poster was looking forward to skirts coming back. Is his motivation comfort or voyeurism?

Men can just wear shorts.

I was merely responding to one of your points.
