Jeans out? Skirts back in?

In my family, I think were fairly even intellectually. ( well ok no, I think I am smarter, I’m certainly more reasoned)
I didn’t marry him for his brains.
He dresses how he wants, although he will change if I make a suggestion. I dress how I want, although i have been known to wear something just because he likes it.

Skirts/ dresses can be more comfortable, but you are more conscious of what you are wearing, and they can be much more restrictive in what they allow the wearer to do. Jeans are easier, and if you need to do something active when wearing them, you can just do it.

“Jeans are easier”
-Does not support the notion that skirts are coming back. Then, I suppose, they are not coming back.
I thought it is connected to increased waist, as far as I feel, when mine increases, skirts become much more comfy, pants basically have to be unbuttoned when I sit down. So it was my line of thinking based on my own comfort zone.

Isnt that what elastic waist pants/skirts are for? Or for men, sansabelt!

More teen girls are wearing skirts and dresses I’ve noticed. I chalked it up to a ‘GLEE’ trend as all the girls wear cute dresses every day.

Skirts have definitely made a comeback (especially with the size 0 girls, so stretchy waistbands are not the reason) in my area, along with very short shorts. It could be a heat thing here, but I noticed it a lot last winter when all the girls were also sporting cute colred. patterned tights. Seems like we are going through a “leg” phase, which is a nice change from the midriff trend of the last few years.

I saw that a trend for fall seems to be bright color contrasting tights.
Like marigold, with a bluish green outfit. Alrighty.

My oldest wears skirts and dresses quite a bit. She is a teacher so she likes something other than jeans, and since she is just 5’1", she has an easier time finding something that fits without hemming.
D who is 5’7", has worn dresses, I’ve seen pictures! But only wears them when cultural or custom requirements dictate. Otherwise she wears jeans, or running shorts or running tights.

Hahaha. There are like four characters on that show that dress like actual high school students and none of them are the girls in my opinion.

I am 5’1 like emeraldkity’s daughter, and I agree that skirts and dresses can be easier without worrying about hemming and finding a perfect fit. I also prefer them in the summer because they are cooler (I commute on public transportation which means I also have some walking and we’ve had a lot of heat recently) and when it’s raining because I hate arriving at work with wet pants hems. I do tend to wear pants more in the winter, but skirts more in the summer.

Or, . . . the “fit and flare” dresses could be part of a “Mad Men” trend. As for contrasting tights/dress look, see the poster for “Ruby Sparks”.

Yes, GLEE ensembles are over the top, but the little ModCloth style retro shift dresses and sundresses are definitely in and “OK” to wear to HS for no particular special occasion.

Definitely, saintfan. It just cracks me up that we virtually never see most of the girls in jeans or even pants. I don’t think Rachel’s dresses are dresses a high school girl wouldn’t wear; I just don’t think she’d be wearing them every day.

Actually neither. It was just noticeable that there was not a pair of jeans in sight! My wife says the same as some of you: it’s a seasonal thing, and right now it’s much too hot to wear jeans.

It depends upon where you are, what you are doing and the weather as to what people will be wearing. Like everyone else I wear fewer pounds of clothing when it is hot than I do when it is bitter cold. Short skirts are great in triple digit heat but may well subject you to hypothermia in a below zero blizzard.

^^^^Yes. Even in Texas, where it’s hotter than Hades right now (it was 106 today and is 93 at 11:00 pm), I can say with no doubt that jeans are here to stay; they are nowhere near to being “out.” It’s amazing how many people can still be observed wearing jeans in this heat. However, many of course eschew their jeans for skirts and shorts during the summer. I live in scrubs at work (where it’s freezing) and shorts on my time off. But make no mistake, once it gets into the upper 70’s, jeans, not skirts, will be the order of the day.

There’s not much more wonderful than “a pair of jeans that fit just right.”
- credit to the Zac Brown Band :)

I like dresses more than skirts. I love jumpers in the winter with tights and long sleeve tees. And boots, often. In the summer I wear a lot of dresses from Horny Toad and Lole and Title 9.

The one thing I insist on in a dress is pockets. Yay for dresses! But I sleep in pajamas, not night gowns. :)

I’ve never worn jeans publicly and rarely even at home. Plus there are so many better fabrics for tromping around outside. Jeans wear like iron, but they are horrible when wet and heavy plus too hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter unless you have long underwear. I’ll take my microfibers anyday. It will be nice to take a break from jeans if that is the way fashion is trending, it’s about time. I do own a pair deep in the bowels of my closet and tend to keep a pair in a somewhat current style just in case something at work comes up that actually requires jeans, but can’t remember the last time I wore them…really can’t.

Horny Toad and Lole and Title 9. - Yup I’ll second all these brands for downtime wearing.

^^^^In milder climates, jeans are perfect for fall/winter/early spring.

Today’s jeans are usually made with at least a little stretch in them, so I find them very comfortable.

But yes, way too hot for summer. Just the thought of wearing jeans in the summer here makes me sweat.

My daughter came into town one day after our downtown’s “Sidewalk Sales” day. We shopped the small, more tourist-oriented shops in town a couple of days later and she bought three dresses-two linen shifts (one, by Aventura, fully lined, for $30) and a long sleeved knit for fall/winter.
