JEE Prep in Resume?

Oh I’ve been studying for IIT/AIEEE on my own but I only go to the coaching classes to give tests and stuff.

I don’t want my 11th ki mehenat to go waste yaar :(

Yeah but I’m not giving it my best - more like a half-hearted attempt.

I guess I’ll just make a smallll mention of it somewhere.

I’m most probably gonna completely stop in sometime.

MIT’s dean of engg is an iit grad. but thats not the point na. i know what both iit/mit are like, and imo the atmosphere, the people at both places just cant be compared…and non tech classes can be fun too!!

@ aniruddh
like everyone’s already said, preparing for the jee isnt an achievement in and of itself. if u want u can write solving tough problems as math olympiad prep as an ec, thats what i did, but i dont Really recommend it…

I don’t think US colleges would care about JEE prep. You really don’t learn anything there (“learn” in the US sense of the word).

I didn’t make a mention of it in my resume.

It’s not like I am preparing for the Math Olympiad anyway so I’d rather not lie…

For the record, I mentioned it somewhere in my application.

BlueBox, check your email account.

I think top U.S. colleges are excellent for people like me who are not sure about what they want to do. In IITs you can’t switch over to cognitive neuroscience from computer science.

Another big advantage of studying in a good Univ in the U.S. is the amazing global perspective (people from all over the world) you get and the superior opportunities to get involved in ECs.

Besides, look at the faculty of Ivies. They are superior to IIT’s faculties in most fields(In general). The opportunity to get to do actual research also seems to be much greater in American colleges (although that does not make research any easier over there). I was once talking to a freshman in a top-twenty engineering college in India (not IIT though) and I said ‘Hey what’s the scope of doing research or some independent project in your college?’…he was like ‘What are you talking about?’

Then I talked to an Indian junior in a top20 LAC and asked him the same question and he told me that he actually did a Pol Sci project on the Middle East and now he’s working in his college lab, on superconductors. That’s Cool!

Yeah, the IIT’s are so good because Indians are great! The cream of the Indian applicant pool and teaching staff go to IITs. IITs haven’t had much competition till recently.

Just saying, but my dad was telling me how he took psychology classes at IIT and how you can actually graduate with a Bachelor’s in Philosophy!

So it’s not like they don’t offer liberal arts at IIT. :)

Ditto. That is the reason why I am applying
Debarghya-are you a '15’er?And you live in Kolkata right?Yay,I’ve got company(apart from aniruddhc) from India!

Fugive my ignorance man! I knew that you could take humanities or social sciences at IITs as electives, but I had no idea that you could major in them. Ani, are you sure that IITs allow students to major in subjects other than engineering? I mean I’ve looked up their websites and all IITs seem to have undergrad programs in only Engineering while some have B.Arch and integrated MSc or MA programs.

@Pixie you’ve not only got company but also a lot of competition ;)

Yes to both your questions.

Oh wait, I’m soooo sorry!

I just asked my dad and he told me that you can do a Doctorate and a masters in something in the humanities!

Sorry again, my bad! :(

Nah,ani’s kinda right. You can graduate with history from IIT chennai.Nice na?

@debarghya-Bring it on girl!! ;)

Debarghya is a guy. :P

Hahaha! That was terrible.

How embarrasing. For debarghya I mean.
Ooi,sorry,I guess I was just hoping for some female company from India…guys are great too Deb.Hiya,boy.

Oh my! That was uh embarrassing.

C’mon Pixies don’t need female company, they need ■■■■■■ and goblins :D

Btw, I think you can only do your Master’s in History from IIT Chennai after appearing for HSEE or something. That was not my point though I just wanted to stress the lack of flexibility in India.

It’d be interesting to see the IISc undergrad program. I have high hopes.

Hi guys , say if someone is preparing for JEE, won’t it look like he is taking challenging courses ? (like APs in US)
Moreover , being in a very selective JEE coaching may actually demonstrate that you are a good student. (I am in Vidyamandir).
My 10th school was pretty selective , too. (Average performance in boards is around 90%).My school was in rural Bihar , so that does count (they never give us good marks in English.)I got 92.2% with 78 in English.

Preparing for the JEE is like preparing for the APs. Doesn’t count till you give the exam, and perform well.
Consequently, being in a selective JEE coaching center is sort of irrelevant too, as is being in a selective AP prep program.
