Jefferson scholarship

Hi, does anyone have information on Jefferson scholarships at UVA. Would an otherwise excellent applicant with a less than 1300 SAT have a chance?

I’d say yes based on this on the website which is good bcuz you likely won’t get in at all with a 1300.

This was this year - you might ask admissions if the same holds true for next.

Please note that SAT, ACT, AP, and IBscores are not considered for the 2024-2025 selection process. The University of Virginia remains test optional.

Tsbna44,

What website were you referring to? And, are saying that for 2029 with a 1300 there is a chance? Thanks

Oooh sorry. The FAQs. There is a school nominating process though you should be aware of.

My recollection from several years back is that the Jefferson Scholarship and UVA admissions are entirely separate from one another. My kid was nominated by his high school GC for the Jefferson but opted not to proceed with applying to UVA. He did this early to avoid taking a classmates potential spot but I honestly forget how it was communicated.

The scholarship sought academic excellence consistent with UVAs standards but was primarily focused on leadership and service (similar to Duke/NC’s Robertson).

If your kid has been nominated for Jefferson there must have been a very strong letter of recommendation and narrative that will likely translate into the admissions application. If however you are asking if a 1300 will prevent a nomination that data I don’t believe exists publicly.

Wishing your kid well.

I can’t edit now - but I meant to say, for 2024-25 they won’t consider. You should ask about 2025/26 - hopefully not as the score, which is fine, would be below what they are likely seeking.

Thank you for the answers. This is for a friend’s daughter, not mine. She has been nominated already. My friend was curious if the score would hold her back.

I would like to remind users that “asking for a friend” is against the ToS. If the friend or their daughter wants to know this information, they can open their own account and ask.
