Jeffrey Epstein arrest and prosecution - is anyone following the case?

Cynical me says the Barr investigation could further cover things up or be an attempt to write things off with a “nothing to see here folks, he committed suicide”.

At the very least, prison security was incompetent. It is a federal facility. Plus he was the linchpin in a very big pedophile ring. His death may mean that there isn’t enough evidence to convict other pedos. It’s just so convenient that the day after the first release of names, he is found dead. And they weren’t even the big fish.

Someone died in custody of the state while under suicide watch. Someone somewhere messed up - a camera, a guard, a doctor?

Money talks, money walks.

^^ Not State custody but federal custody. That’s why Barr is looking into it.

All the politicians are screaming “the case will go on” but you can’t try a dead man. You can’t even sentence a dead man. I had a client commit suicide after being found guilty but before being sentenced. The jury verdict was voided and the case dismissed. Same with Aaron Hernandez as his appeals were not completed. That was a big issue because the Patriots didn’t want to have to pay his contract or bonuses, but his girlfriend was fighting with the NFL/Patriots saying he’d never been convicted so his child was entitled to his contract money since he’d not been found guilty of any crimes (verdicts were vacated). I believe the Patriots won because even though the verdicts were vacated, plenty of evidence that he violated the moral clauses of his contract.

Sorry, federal custody, and just read he’d been taken taken off suicide watch a week ago. He was supposed to be under special watch nevertheless.
The case continues because there are other people named in the criminal suits. Just hoping authorities are keeping them in a safe house.

I would imagine many of his victims now feel robbed of the opportunity to see him held accountable for his actions. He took the coward’s way out, so justice really won’t be served.

Of course, there is the possibility that he was taken out. Lots of powerful people were no doubt feeling quite vulnerable with him alive and able to take some people down with him. We’ll probably never know.

I still do not understand why this has any impact whatsoever on other cases-whether he is dead, or alive and silent, won’t affect anyone’s else’s prosecution. Prison security is there to prevent escapes, not self harm. Sorry if victims don’t feel they got their revenge adequately, but that was neither guaranteed nor the purpose of the prosecution. Suicide is legal in many places. And rational, too.

On the cynical but bright side, his death has saved the government probably $3-5 million in legal fees, plus incarceration at an average cost of $100k/year for an estimated life expectancy of perhaps 15 years, plus additional medical costs likely to be incurred as he aged in prison. I like to think the money will be put to better use than spent on him.

What may I ask does Jeffrey Epstein have to with College Confidential?

Who else was indicted? On the same case as Epstein?

Assuming all rules are followed, we welcome all conversations in the cafe.

Many people are very skeptical that Epstein’s death was suicide. If he was murdered, that needs to be investigated.

If he died by suicide, after just being taken off a suicide watch list, that needs to be looked at too. His death benefits many people against whom he could have provided information. Was the decision to take him off the watch list affected by any of those people? More investigation needed.

Not because the world was any better off with Epstein alive, but because corruption anywhere is a problem that won’t be limited to Epstein’s health status, and if people in the corrections system are taking bribes they need to be prosecuted, as do those that bribed them.
And in general, we don’t as a nation like to just let prisoners die from suicide or any preventable cause. Again, not because Epstein will be missed. But because we lose some of our humanity when we let things like that happen to fellow humans.

There was some discussion in the press about what would happen to data/documents/anything in his many residences or anywhere else now that he has died. He is no longer around to contest their taking by investigators, so does that mean they can raid all of his property and confiscate everything? How many more people will be named and shamed then?

And finally his estate will be available to pay out money to plaintiffs who win civil suits. Maybe a job will be created for someone to inventory his assets and pay out claims, much like what was done with, say, Bernie Madoff.

I wonder who his heirs are? He won’t be around to contest the civil suits against his assets, so I presume that most will go to those victims who sue the estate.

Yes, the FBI can/has raid(Ed) any of his properties and since it’s an international organization so can Interpol or any other force involved.

Because the (alleged) criminals lower in the food chain are persuaded to talk by promise of immunity or a lesser sentence because the goal is to get the top guy. Now that there is no top guy, that incentive is gone.

He didn’t have any children (despite his plan to impregnant 20 at the same time). He does have a brother.

I think some of the government entities will file suits against the houses and property as used in the criminal enterprises. The actually ‘sue’ the townhouse in NYC or the island property and claim it was used in a criminal activity and the government entity can then take the property. It happens a lot with cars, boats and houses used in the drug trade.

Right, so the first lower tier doesn’t get immunity to testify against Epstein. Instead, they become the upper tier now, and those even lower on the chain are given immunity to testify against the new top tier. Why is this not good?

This whole thing really smells. I’m not into conspiracy theories, I’m really not. But this… this one stinks to high heaven…

On FB, a story is circulating that JE is alive and entered the witness protection program. I doubt this
