Jeffrey Epstein arrest and prosecution - is anyone following the case?

The best comment I’ve seen on the net about this was: you think you were surprised by Epstein’s suicide, just imagine how surprised he was!

I really think he committed suicide on his own. Who would want to be 67 and having all your friends (former or current if he has any current ones) testify against you, having your brother and employees torn apart, listening to your horrible acts and how you’d been a fraud all your life? He knew he was NEVER getting out of jail, that no one in jail would ever speak to him, that he’d likely be going to a bad federal prison except for trial after trail in NY, West Palm Beach, New Mexico, St. Thomas? He’d always been the smartest guy in the room, and now he was going to be worst than Bernie Madoff, a thief and a rapist/sex trader, in jail.

Why would he want to go through all that?

I’m not that surprised and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was, too, whether of his own doing or by nefarious means.

I think you’re giving him far too much credit. I imagine he looked his surroundings, didn’t see any teenage girls to molest, and realized he would be there until he was too old to molest anyone anymore. That is when he decided life wasn’t worth living.

It is NOT good. Nobody thinks it’s good. The new “top tier” is not the same as getting Epstein. And … not for nothing, the victims are distraught that this happened. From today’s Miami Herald, which initially broke the Epstein story:

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/article233742972.html

Given that (a) conspiracy theories are already out in full force, and (b) Epstein had contacts with various prominent politicians in both large parties, any investigation or revelation of something involving an Epstein contact who is a politician will likely generate conspiracy theories about politically motivated targeting.

I guess we will have to disagree, then, @brantly. I think the outcome is good. It appears other prosecutions are not affected, Epstein effectively got accelerated capital punishment (which was never a penalty possible in this case) and enormous public resources were saved. I just wish he had done it months ago at the time of arrest.

^^ well he tried!

I don’t think Epstein is necessarily the top guy. This international pedophile ring has tentacles across the globe.

Perhaps. But given that Epstein would not have cooperated (No incentive to do so would have been possible for the prosecution to offer given the history), his death doesn’t impact the others in the ring.

Yep, and I don’t understand the legal aspects behind it, but I have read that with Epstein dead, no one can file any motion to make evidence collected from Epstein’s properties inadmissible.

I do think the civil suits against the estate, or anything left in the estate, will be quickly settled. The victims won’t feel they got their day in court but they won’t have to go through it either.

I was never convinced they would have testified as 14 year olds years ago. Newspapers can claim they were all lined up to testify, but I think Epstein’s attorneys would have really hammered them and many would have backed out at some point during the process. It is really hard to relive it, especially in court, especially at 15 years old.

Another theory:
Elites weren’t worried about Epstein naming names, they were worried about hard evidence.
When Epstein was attacked in his cell the first time, it was to determine if Epstein had any secretly hidden information.
Epstein either gave up the location of the hidden information and after it was located he was killed or on the second visit he maintained there was no other information so he was killed.

I’m certainly not surprised he’s dead. Nothing would surprise me - him doing it on his own to avoid trial and life in prison or that someone paid off the guards to give him the time/equipment or someone coming in to suicide him. He didn’t stand a chance of surviving until trial let alone testifying.
But what is this ring mentioned above?

There’s been a hiring freeze in federal prisons. The union rep said employees at the facility have been forced to work 50-70 hour weeks for weeks and they’re so short handed that there was at least one “non correctional officer” (example given: a teacher) in charge of watching the detainees in the special unit.
The prison administration has not commented yet on the union rep except to say that in their estimation there’s no immediate link between forced overtime and what happened.

But @MYOS1634 they seem ready to make fall guys of the guards on overtime.

You seem shocked that anyone (or any one group) will accept responsibility rather than play CYA.

So who is this handler of his Ghislaine Maxwell? Will anything happen to her? She apparently was close to the Clintons and attended Chelsea’s wedding. Stories have swirled for years from secret service, it will be interesting if any speak up publicly.

Suicide is the intentional taking of one’s own life/causing one’s own death. Is the word or phrase “suicided him” used here, as in “suicide by cop”, (meaning acting in a way/getting someone else to purposely cause one’s own death?

@jym626 I am guessing murder staged as suicide.
