Thanks for the gift link. Interesting article, I wonder if the full truth of how he had so much influence and money will ever come out.

Yes, I think that the truth will be exposed only by following the money. All the way back to the Towers Financial Scandal from the 1980s and 1990s. The largest Ponzi scheme in US history prior to Bernie Madoff, Epstein was the only one of the principles to get off without any consequence - just as he did in the sex trafficking case in 2008 from which he got off with a slap on the wrist. So, the same dynamic was operational in both cases - and it goes back a long way.

It has long been rumored that Epstein was an intelligence asset bith here and overseas. It’s frankly the only explanation which makes sense in his case and which explains both his rise, his inexplicable escape from penalties, and his eventual silencing.

@Bill_Marsh Can you elaborate on what you mean? I’m not sure I follow.

What I mean by what?

I’m no expert (and I’ve never recruited for the CIA although I’ve read case studies, been trained in some of their assessment techniques) and I find the idea that he was an intelligence asset very hard to swallow.

I know there’s been a lot of ink of Robert Maxwell and his alleged ties to Mossad– explaining the connection to Ghislaine and Epstein from way back when. Again, I find this hard to believe. The Mossad agents who have been identified years after they left the service fit a few profiles- but by and large, they flew under the radar, abhorred publicity, had ā€œplan vanillaā€ type jobs like worked as expeditors for import/export (which explained the travel), spoke a bunch of languages but had very pedestrian tastes and lifestyles. That was not Maxwell. And he never shut up apparently. Gregarious, garrulous- not what you want in a person paid to find and keep secrets.

And Epstein- the garish homes and ginormous parties, the ā€œbon vivantā€ persona that he cultivated and loved to publicize- this is also not the CIA, Interpol profile. CIA agents who have worked undercover and then been exposed have mostly lived in anonymous subdivisions, mowed their lawns on Sunday like their neighbors, attended school plays and music recitals, and lived pretty ordinary lives. Their travels (whether to meet their handler or on assignment) were easily explained- she was an insurance adjuster going to an international conference about hurricane claims; he worked in leasing for a company that distributed oil rigs or industrial equipment and the parent office was in Zurich.

Everyone would love a better narrative than ā€œhe was a predator enabled by a lot of powerful institutions and people.ā€ But I suspect that’s what we’re stuck with.

More questions than answers:

Steven Hoffenberg, who was found dead in 2023 under mysterious circumstances and was Epstein’s mentor at Towers Financial, believed that he was an intelligence asset. Jean-Luc Brunel, French ā€œmodelingā€ agent and close associate of Epstein, was found dead by suicide in a Paris jail while awaiting prosecution on sex trafficking charges.

Pages describing how Jeffrey Epstein got so much money:

The articles gloss over Epstein’s early career. Let’s begin at the beginning. How did Epstein get hired as a Math teacher at the prestigious Dalton School without a college degree? Epstein was fired from the Dalton School a couple of years later for ā€œpoor performanceā€. With the benefit of hindsight and now knowing this guy’s history, was he really fired for being involved with female students? That question has to be asked.

Having failed at his first job and with no credentials, still without a college degree, how did Epstein get hired at Bear Stearns? And why? How did Epstein make partner in just 4 years, a rare accomplishment? There are reports that there are no records of his transactions. How does that happen?

By 1987, Epstein had hooked up with Towers Financal. There he was one of the principles in the largest Ponzi scheme in U.S. history up to that time. In 1993, Towers was busted for fraud. That didn’t take long. Three of the principles were sentenced to long prison terms in 1995 and a fourth was disbarred. Epstein walked. Skated. How did that happen?

In 1987, the same year that he joined Towers, Epstein became Wexner’s financial manager. Busy boy. That relationship was what it was and Epstein made a lot of money there. In 1989, Wexner acquired a palatial NYC townhouse and invested millions renovating it but never moved in. But Epstein did in 1995, the same year that his Towers associates were sentenced in court. And then acquired ownership of it in 1998. Epstein used the townhouse as a brothel. What the heck was that all about?

We have to again ask the sex question. Pedophiles and procurers don’t suddenly appear out of nowhere in there 40s when they start operating a brothel. So what was Epstein doing about his predilection for young girls between the time that he left the Dalton School and the time that he moved into the NYC mansion at 9 East 71 Street? Was he procuring for others in that period? If so, for whom? In 2002, Trump famously made the much quoted comment about Epstein, ā€œGreat guy. He loves beautiful women almost as much as I do. But he prefers them on the young side.ā€ In retrospect, we know now what the Donald was talking about even if he today denies the obvious implications of that comment. So, Epstein’s behaviour with women - especially young women - was well known.

Epstein’s activities at JP Morgan have been well documented at this point. I’m more interested in his rise during the ā€˜70s, ā€˜80s, and ā€˜90s which is murkier and about which less is known. I think that the answers to who and what he became lie there.

Another long article, from several years ago, that focuses on Wexner, and Epstein’s beginnings:

Thanks. Excellent article!

Obviously, money rules all, as this article shows. Enough money and the promise of more sure causes people to ignore what they should not.

But what just gets glossed over … at what point do we call out the fact that without men who wanted what Epstein offered, his sex trafficking enterprise would not have existed? They are as guilty as he is. Power, money and forced sex (oh, but of course, who wouldn’t want to have sex with a rich, powerful man) … expected perks for CEO’s, I guess? Where is the outrage for the network of men who made all of this possible? And how much did what he offered contribute to his closeness to the wealthy and powerful? Seriously, these guys just get to go to their graves without being held accountable for their part in all of this?

I think this is what is driving the outrage and interest in the Epstein files. It’s not Epstein, it’s all the powerful people who knew and/or participated.

Yes, and it’s the fact that he was let off in Florida with a slap on the wrist by a federal prosecutor who later became a cabinet secretary under Trump, who was a friends of Epstein. Where did Epstein get that kind of leverage? And now we see Maxwell being treated with kid gloves in the federal prison system.

When these events are seen in light of the fact that Epstein was also let off on bank fraud charges 13 years earlier when his associates went to prison and the fact that a sex trafficking associate of his also died in prison by ā€œsuicideā€ before he could talk, all kind of alarm bells go off and lights start flashing. Under what circumstances do se traffickers who have no conscience suddenly become remorseful and take their own lives? And how often do two such cases involve business partners?

Never mind.

I don’t think the men who committed suicide had remorse. I think they killed themselves so they wouldn’t have to talk and name names. Epstein included.

Point of clarification for accuracy: That statement should read ā€œEpstein’s behavior with children was well known.ā€
