This is so terrible. Two lives wasted over a domestic dispute, and now the nephew has been kidnapped. I feel so sorry for Jennifer Hudson. This is indeed very tragic.

How very sad. I wondered what led to the deaths. It’s disturbing to hear that it was domestic abuse.

CNN is reporting that they have found the car they’ve been looking for since Friday and that there is the body of a child inside. This is such a tragic story. I will never understand how someone can kill a child.

Oh no, I didn’t know they found the car and the child! As of late last night when I checked, they had not. I don’t see the story on cnn.com. The entire story so far is extremely tragic. Like you, AlwaysAMom, I cannot fathom how one has the gumption to kill a child. Then again, I feel that about any killing but still. I imagine it could be a vengeful act against this family, perhaps by the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson’s sister. The boy was a witness. There are such sick and inhumane people that it is hard to fathom how they operate and devalue human life. I can’t imagine what the remaining family members are going through and particularly the mother of the little boy!! So sad…beyond sad.

It now has made the online news sites and is a developing story but the tragic ending is pretty inevitable from how it appears.

This is heartbreaking.

I wish that there were a massive and well publicized effort to address domestic violence including by preventing it by providing education to all young people about the signs of it.

In the last 2 years on the campus where I was a professor, at least two women were killed due to domestic violence: one was a professor with children who was killed by her husband; another was a student who was killed by a guy who apparently wanted a romantic relationship.

I know a woman who during her first job after college was shot by a stalker. She had to go into hiding afterward to avoid him.

In addition to educating, providing counseling, and doing other things to prevent young people from growing into adults who are abusive to their partners, it’s important to educate everyone about the signs that a partner is or can become abusive.

Too many women, for instance, think that a guy who insists on knowing their whereabouts 24/7 is delightfully love sick, not on the way to becoming physically and emotionally abusive.

As parents, it’s important that we inform our kids – male as well as female – about domestic abuse.

Yahoo! News is reporting police found the body of a boy on Chicago’s West Side: [Boy’s body found on Chicago’s West Side - Yahoo!
NSM…you are right about domestic violence.

I just want to mention, though it is too early to prove anything and people are innocent until proven guilty, but it APPEARS that the man responsible is the estranged husband of Ms. Hudson’s sister, Julia and he did not live in the home and apparently had been asked last year to leave the home. And in such cases, sometimes a restraining order is needed but even then, these women or families are not safe from the domestic abuser. Also, this suspect was on parole for attempted murder and other crimes and so I don’t now how closely those on parole for such violence are watched but given the guy being estranged and ousted from the family home and his violent history, it likely was a recipe for possible disaster. I don’t know the answer, nor the entire situation, but it sounds like this family was in danger right along.

I just heard Jennifer Hudson begged her mother to move out. She was about to buy a new house for her mother. Now it’s too late.

I have no idea if any family members had a restraining order against this man, William Balfour (who is a suspect and the estranged husband of Julia Balfour, Jennifer Hudson’s sister). But even women who do have restraining orders with domestic abusers tend to be in danger and the restraining order cannot keep them safe. This guy had a violent past. Whether Ms. Hudson’s mother moved or not, this family may have been in danger from this man who may have been a domestic abuser. They find you no matter where you live. In other words, it is not due to the “neighborhood” when domestic violence is at the root of the crime, which is what authorities are indicating.

From what I’ve seen, one precursor of someone’s becoming abusive is their having been abused as a child. Consequently, the more that’s done to identify abused kids and to give them and their families the help to end the situation, the fewer cases we’ll have of adults who are victimized by abuse. Many abusive parents also were abused as children.
