Jeopardy and James Holzhauer, anyone watching?

That might have been the only time James got a question wrong (at least initially) that I got right. He hasn’t missed 30 questions yet total. There have probably been shows when I would have missed 30 questions (certainly 2-3 shows when I would have missed 30 combined). LOL

James had a “bad” day yesterday. Won his 25th game but “only” won $71,885. Actually reduced his average win total with what is the 19th highest single game total to date. And he got a question wrong. Ends correct answer streak at 265. He has 17 of the top 20 single game totals of all time. And his is still averaging more than what was the single game high prior to his arrival. All crazy numbers.

Assuming he keeps winning at his current pace of $$/win, he would pass Ken Jennings on June 3. And would pass Brad Rutter on July 25. When I first saw that I thought don’t say that because you will jinx him. But how can you jinx something that has either already happened or won’t? Unless I suppose you believe the gameshow gods somehow knew back when they were taping his shows that someone would write months later about when he could break the previous records. LOL

Maybe he will break $2 million tonight!!

I think it’s funny that he can’t collect the money until he loses. Maybe he’ll have to take out a loan, ha. Although he is probably still gambling online when he’s not playing.

@MaineLonghorn he already knows if he broke the $2 million mark…these shows were taped a while ago! I don’t think James is worried…at all.

Still surprised that no one has blabbed whether or not James was still on the show when it started its summer break.

@thumper1, oh, I know the shows are taped. WE don’t know if he will break $2 million today, although it seems a pretty safe bet (no pun intended).

I was so disappointed in James yesterday. He didn’t know all the answers in the Mary Poppins category! I ran the category (of course).

I thought @Scorpio said he can collect the money when the show runs, so doesn’t have to wait until the end to get some of the money. I’ve notice James hasn’t spent any money on his wardrobe. Wears a V neck sweater or front button dress shirt every day, usually in a maroon or charcoal shade.

He didn’t have a lot of time to shop though, did he? At least not with winnings from the show. If they tape 5 episodes a day, he has only been taping so far about 5-6 days. And when they were taping he wouldn’t had had any of his money from the show.

I have a feeling we’re seeing his full wardrobe. He seems like a minimalist.

He has said that he mostly wears sports jerseys so his “ dress”wardrobe is very limited.

Wow! Finally, some tension!

I was worried for a little while!

James looked tired tonight.

^ I agree. I told my husband he just might be “over it” at this point. But, he rallied. Amazing.

You don’t earn the money until the show airs. If it never airs for some reason you get nothing. In my day five wins were the limit, and they just wrote me one check for the full five days worth of wins. I got the check in the mail about a month after the shows aired. I don’t know what they do if the wins are spread out over more than a calendar month. Do they issue an interim check to cover the early wins and settle up later? Or do they wait until you lose and then write one huge check for the full amount? I honestly don’t know.

Whatever the case, I’m thinking that when the current games were taped, James had not yet seen a single nickel of his winnings - given the months of delay. between the taping and the airing. The duration of delay varies, but in my case it was about three and half months. My games taped in mid September and aired early in the following January.

Wow, I really wondered last night if James would be able to pull it out. He looked a little shell shocked at the end! It must get exhausting. $9,000 short of $2 million now!

What we saw last night is that James is not unbeatable. He finally ran into a player who could keep up with him and even get ahead of him on the boards. The whole game turned on that 3rd DD when James bet it all and got it right. If he had missed that DD we would have a new champion now.

As I have said, eventually he will be sunk by someone who can keep up with him combined with his missing a big DD.

Glad James was able to pull it off last night. He definitely did not seem to be on his game.

What the 2 guys did in Final Jeopardy also made a difference in the outcome. They both got it right but Nate was not very aggressive with his wager. Agree that James has been shown to not be unbeatable.

I don’t think it mattered what Nate wagered because even if he wagered all of his money ($25,800) he couldn’t beat James if James answered correctly. His only hope was for James to get answer wrong.
