JETS Competition?

Hi.
My science teacher just recommended me to compete for JETS (engineering competition?).
What exactly is JETS and how competitive is it?
I am not even in AP math or science, and i feel very apprehensive about this…
Thanks.

haha lol i just did JETS today. I’m a freshman and my team competed in the JV division (same problems, just seperate scoring). Most of the problems were extremely difficult and confusing for us as none of us had taken more than precalc and barely any physics experience. However, although we only got around 20 of 80 questions answered and guessed on the rest, we got 3rd place. I would say that at least in JV its more of a try it out type of thing. I can’t speak for varsity though

I just completed JETS also today. It’s really a team building program. You can divide up the scenarios and do it that way (time efficient), but it’s a bit more fun with your team members. It’s Part I MC, and Part II Short answer.
You’ll probably know your MC score before you leave and your Short answer some time in April.
It’s a great program if you like problem solving etc. AND you get to compete for cash prizes and bragging rights.
Our school won nationals last year, and we still have the banner hanging in our school.

JETS is pretty fun. The second half wasn’t very fun, but my varsity team got 3rd (tied with 2nd) at our regional. Looks good for colleges I suppose?

What should I do to prepare for it>?
Should I just read my physics textbooks and memorize the formulas?

My JV team got second nationally last year. Varsity is in a few days for me.

You really don’t have to memorize that much, or even know that much going in to it from what I can remember. You learn the relevant information as you do the competition, for the most part, which makes for an interesting test.

At least, the one I did last year was rather like that.

I assume you’re talking about TEAMS… If so it’s an interesting experience… Depending on the scenario you may or may not need physics/chen skills… Our team won 1st place regionals and I updated my colleges on it… We’ll see if they like it on 3/31 :P
