As a Pats fan, I’m thrilled. This means the Jets will continue to suck for a few more years. Rat Mangini will be fired and his NFL career will be over.

Just go to WFAN radio (it’s streamed on line) to hear the Jets fans lining up to jump off the GW Bridge. I’m sure the Mike and the MadDog Show will be on fire tomorrow.

I take it back. A quick jog thru the Jets fan boards show that not only are they not jumping off the GW, they actually believe that the Jets have now moved past the Patriots as favorites to win the AFC East and go to the SuperBowl.

Silly Jets fans.

Farve’s Wis fans approval rating was reported as 47% and only 31% for Green Bay fans today… you can have him. Time to move on.

This is Northeastdad, Northeastmom’s husband, typing a first post. Also, I’m a Jet season ticket holder.

While I don’t expect this will make us a Superbowl contender, it will make for a fun year!

Just an NFL fan, but I think it will help Jets in short term. Plus, Favre is a great player and role model on the field. Off the field I think he looks like a 6th grade schoolboy. “I’ll play. I won’t. I’ll play. I won’t. I’ll play if we play my way. I won’t play.” And on and on. A very selfish schoolboy.

As a Giants fan who has a bit of affection for the Jets though I don’t root for them, I think it will makes things a lot of fun here in the NY area (or actually, here in NJ where they both really play!)

ID–anything that makes you Pats fans a little less sad seems like a good thing. :)

Like Garland, I haven’t watched or rooted for the Jets in years…Hmmmm…Yes, it will be a fun year…

As an aside, My D1 who used to be a tomboy, has a Bret Favre jersey from 1999…can’t wait till she wakes up!!

I agree with Garland. I’m wondering where in NJ Favre will settle. Two very likable & responsible QBs for the Jersey teams. It’s a good thing.

Very sorry Tampa couldn’t get him.

I have now become a Jets fan after being a life long Packer Backer.
I think alot of Favre’s vacillation was due to Ted Thompson. He wanted Brett gone since he got here and I believe pushed him to retire.
I hope Aaron Rogers sucks and the Packers don’t make the playoffs.

H is a huge, huge lifelong Packer fan (we’re talking Bart Starr and Ray Nitschke here), and even he says it’s time to move on. Personally, I lost some respect for the Packers when they hired Ari Fleischer to “consult” on the Favre situation. Really? Consult?

Pats fan here. It will make it more fun watch the Pats games vs the Jets. But it’s not enough to un-throne the Pats from the top of the division (unless Brady gets hurt).

Funny picture from 2 weeks ago: Manny Ramirez sitting in the Red Sox dugout, holding up a sign to the TV camera, “I’ve been traded to Green Bay for Brett Favre straight up.”

This is an interesting turn of events from my perspective… a couple of weeks ago when the whole Favre debaucle evolved, I was adamant that he created the whole situation. My husband and daughter insisted that it was the Packers head honchos that really created the situation that led Favre to announce his retirement. I didn’t really believe them, until today when I read this:

[FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - Favre can’t win when it comes to office politics](<a href=“NFL News, Scores, Standings & Stats | FOX Sports”>NFL News, Scores, Standings & Stats | FOX Sports)

Lalufum–as I said before, anything that makes a Pats fan happy…

We Giants fans kinda feel like a grand prize fell onto our laps outta nowhere, so we’re feeling mighty bighearted for the rest of youz guys (on the “top of your division”…giggle). Sorry, still can’t believe last winter really happened, haven’t gotten over the giddiness yet.

[Favre’s Jets jersey already in demand – Newsday.com](Newsday | Long Island's & NYC's News Source - Newsday)

Record jersey sales! I bet attendance at the Jet’s games increase a lot.

Garland, that miracle helmet-catch would have been SO much harder to live with if we didn’t already have 3 recent Super Bowl trophies sitting in Foxboro… (and ok, I have to admit, I’m kind of happy for Eli.)

But the title of this thread asked for Jets’ fans opinions! Is Northeastdad the only fan the J-E-T-S-Jets-Jets-Jets have left? Are there no followers of Gang Green to be found?

Packers and Favre fan here!!!

Been lots of turmoil in our house. But the bottom line (tonight at least) is that the man is 38 years old and not ready to quit his job yet. He is not motivated by the $$, but by the sport. He, just like we may be, may be refreshed and invigorated by a change after 18 (or whatever) years.

He may have made a mistake by retiring - we will never know the real circumstances. But, just like us, if he made a mistake, he chose to go on and try to make the best of what he felt he should do. After watching his press conference tonight, I believe his dream was to go back to the Packers but once he realized he couldn’t go “back home” again, he chose to have a new beginning. Good for him. Good for the Jets. I think everyone, including the Packers will survive this. No doubt, it was still somewhat difficult to stand up there with that green and white as opposed to green and gold jersey - maybe a little disbelief. I believe he will go out and try his best and beyond at this new opportunity.

Guess we’ll be watching a little more football at our house - Packers and Jets! And, boy, am I glad my 16 year old son didn’t purchase those Sept. 8 “retiring Brett’s jersey” tickets he was working all summer for - yikes!!! Now he can put that $$ in the college fund!!!

Good luck and best wishes Packers and Favre!!!

abasket - AHHHHH… you were the one. I remember someone starting a thread about possibly getting tickets for that game, but I couldn’t remember who. I even told my H about it, and suggested he try to go, but thankfully, he, too never got around to it. I’m guessing NY is a bit further than Green Bay for you guys, but maybe he won’t care so much about retiring a Jets jersey as he would if it were a Packer’s jersey.

I don’t like this deal, I am not sure Brett would be committed full time to the cause. I actually liked Chad, yes he was injured most of the time, but the offensive line was terrible, so I believe that also contributed to some of his injuries.

Go Jets, beat the Pats
