I am planning to enter Brandeis in the fall of '08. I was just wondering what the dating scene is like? I’m very Scandinavian-looking (light blonde hair, blue eyes) and someone told me the Jewish guys at Brandeis wouldn’t want to date me because of this? I just want to know if my dating options will be limited due to the large Jewish population (I’m not at all concerned what religion or ethnicity a potentional l boyfriend is).

Please note this has no bearing on whether or not I’ll go to Brandeis; I am just curious.

I think it would only be a problem with Conservadox Jews. Reform and secular wouldn’t care. There’s a column in the Hoot written by a girl who is not Jewish complaining about being called a shiksa (Yiddish disparaging term for a non-Jewish woman) so I suppose there is that discrimination, but I personally have never seen it and none of my non Jewish friends have experienced it. I know several Jewish guys dating nonJewish girls and I’m a Jewish girl who has never dated a Jewish guy. Things happen and it’s not necessarily a preference for one ethnicity over another.

Also, there are blond hair, blue eyed Jews so just because you look Scandinavian doesn’t really mean much My brother had light blond hair for most of his life (only recently darked a bit and he’s 18) and has blue eyes, but is Jewish. There are lots of redheads as well- we all don’t have curly dark hair and brown eyes. :P
