Jewish

does being jewish help or hurt an application in general? i’m jewish and want to apply for transfer.

it doesnt do anything at all.

how about being a legacy? my father went here…

Georgetown is a Jesuit Catholic school, so if you are Jewish, you probably won’t meet many other Jewish people. That is more just a social consideration really. Just because there aren’t a lot of Jews doesn’t mean that helps in the admissions process, but if you are looking for a place where there will be many Jews, you won’t find it at G’Town.

I’ve heard there’s a significant Jewish population at Gtown… The school’s obviuosly about half Catholic, but there’s a fair share of jews. The legacy does help, but im not sure how much as a transfer.

I come from a mixed marriage actually…my mother is jewish and my father is catholic, so i really am not so worried meeting a lot of other jews. my high school was only about 5 percent jewish…does anybody know how much legacy status helps for a transfer application?

Georgetown’s undergrad is over 10% jewish; not a bad number for the size of the school. I also understand they have a pretty active Hillel program.

I can not answer you question as to if it will help or hurt your application; but I would assume it would not hurt and most likely will not help you one way or another.

Religion doesn’t influence admissions the same way race/ethnicity does.

how about the fact that my dad went there???

It will certainly be helpful to have legacy status, but you need to have a solid application nevertheless; your GPA from the university you currently attend should be at least a 3.5- that is probably the most important factor on the application.

I can say with 99 percent confidence that i will have a 3.5 or better…i will have solid recommendation and My high school transcript is flawless…I tend to think I had a good shot out of high school, but was “beat out” so to speak by a peer who was a 4th generation legacy…i know I wouldnt not have def. got in if it wasn’t for him, but my chances sure would have been better since it seemed like it was either him or me…i currently intern at the local democratic party…would anybody see a political correctness problem if i obtained a letter of recommendation from the chairwoman of the party? or is this a good idea…
