Curious when the supplement questions will be ready. Are they the same as last year’s?

Thanks!

Hi,Please Answeser my question.
I am applying toJohns Hopkins for Mathematics(1st choice) and Neuroscience (2nd Choice). The problem is that i have not taken biology nor do i have any extras in bio for the past 4 years(12,11,10,9th). However, luckily Hopkins have essays asking to explain the choice of majors which i can explain very well. So is it a good idea to apply for neuroscience also, i can write an excellent essay combing math and neuro if i do?

Also, should i reveal in my essay that i want to peruse a double major in math and neuro?
Hopkins does have core requirements and i will have to work extra hard to fulfill the humanities requirements since both of the above are a parts of sciences. Please help. What should i do???

No need to post your question multiple times and in multiple places. I responded here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/johns-hopkins-university/1257217-major-dilema.html

For some reason, I was under the impression that JHU had no core curriculum… is this not true? I was told this at my info session in the summer, but now looking at website it says otherwise. What might I be thinking of instead? Is there something special or different about the core curriculum that should be noted?

Oh oops - I got the answer to that question. Sorry for the spam! I do have another question, though.

I was told JHU’s humanities program is ranked one of the best in the program - where is this stated? I’m incredibly interested in pursuing classical studies in college and because I am already applying to JHU, I was wondering if this would be a good institution to pursue that major.

Johns Hopkins University does not have a core curriculum. To graduate a student must complete requirements for a major and within each major there is a set of distribution requirements. These distribution credits are different across majors. Further details can be found here: [Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering](<a href=“Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering”>Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering)

I am not a believer in rankings nor do I track rankings. Yes, Johns Hopkins University’s Humanities programs are quite well regarded and some of the strongest majors offered at Hopkins are in the Humanities. To learn more about the Classics major at Hopkins visit here: [Home | Classics Department | Johns Hopkins University](http://classics.jhu.edu/)

Hi, i am an international student and i really LOVE Johns Hopkins University. I read on many posts that expressing interest in the university, by way of a call or email, will add positively. However, i called UMich once to genuinely ask them a question and they dint even ask me any details about my self. Not even a “What is your name?”. So i was sort of confused. Anyways what can i do to express my intrest in Johns Hopkins, should i email an admissions officer or call or something like that?

Hello AdmissionsDaniel, I have a bit a problem…

I live on the west coast and I sent in my application today around 9:20 my time (the common app part). However, I was not aware that the CommonApp went on eastern time, so my JHU application was “sent” on January 2nd while the supplement and payments say January 1st.

How bad is this? Will I be automatically rejected?

Hey AdmissionsDaniel, today I received an e-mail from JHU saying that the Regular Decision deadline was open until January 15th because I’ve already started my Common Application, but everywhere I look says that the deadline is January 1st (including Common App itself).

Was this e-mail an error/fake or something? Or is JHU just being generous? I’m definitely interested in applying if it’s still open!

Hi AdmissionsDaniel;

Could you clarify what “SAT II subject exams are strongly recommended but not required” really means? If SAT II scores are not submitted, would that hurt applicant’s chance? My son took ACT with writing instead of SAT. He didn’t take SAT II subject exams since they are not required.

Johns Hopkins University does not track an applicant’s interest and does not factor interest in our decision-making process. Other schools may be concerned with interest and may track the number of times a student contacts the University, but that is not true for the admissions process at Johns Hopkins University. The only reason to contact our office is if you have a question we can assist with. The Admissions staff is busy reviewing applications and do not have the time to field calls or e-mails of students who just want to express interest.

Nothing to worry about. We will be processing all online application submissions for the period of January 1, 2012 through January 2, 2012. We are allowing online submissions through January 2nd because of time zone issues for some applicants, and other applicants who experienced technical difficulties while submitting their application. Application materials submitted by January 2nd will be processed and one’s chances for admissions will not be impacted by the materials being submit after the stated deadline. There is no additional follow-up needed on your part.

The application deadline was January 1st, however just as the e-mail you received stated, we have extended the deadline to January 15 for students who had in-progress Common Applications to Johns Hopkins but had not submitted yet. The e-mail is not SPAM or fake, it is completely valid. We have not updated our website to note a new deadline, as the etxension is only granted to the students who received the message (those with in-progress but not submitted Common Applications to Johns Hopkins).

There is no official advantage or disadvantage to submitting SAT II scores. It is the choice of each individual student whether they want to submit SAT II subject exam scores and how many exams they want to submit. However, we want applicants to consider our recommendations as strong recommendations, therefore submitting SAT II scores will make a difference in the application review. There is no way to predict whether submitting scores will impact the review of the application positively or negatively, as they are part of the comprehensive review of an applicant’s file.

Hi AdmissionsDaniel, on CommonApp Arts Supplement, it asks for “a letter of recommendation from an arts instructor who is familiar with your work.”

My arts instructor sent me a rec, but then he realised that he accidentally sent me the incomplete version of the rec. And I already submitted my app and arts supplement >.<"

As you mentioned above “we have extended the deadline to January 15”, is there any way for me to fix my problem?

Thanxx

I already submitted my Common App and Supp App for JHU before the Jan 1 deadline. I have received the “Thank you for submitting your application to Johns Hopkins University” email from JHU, but it does not include the account ID and PIN number or something like that to track the app status. Is that normal? Am I about to receive it soon?

And I did not send in my International Certification of Finances Form before the deadline. Can I send it now (before Jan 15)? Do I need to send in any supporting documents alongside with the form (Bank Statement, Parents’ Income Statement issued by employer…)? Thank you.

And also, I want to edit my two supp essays a little bit. Can I send in a revised version of my essay? Thank you.

Also I got a 36 out of 36 on ACT English and a 27 on the Reading section. Is TOEFL waived for me?

If there is an error in any of your application materials, such as an incomplete recommendation letter, you are able to have this corrected but you need to do this as soon as possible. Ask your arts instructor to send the corrected letter to the Office of Admissions by fax (410-516-6025) with a cover letter explaining the need for the correction. As I said, get this done immediately.

There is no account ID and PIN number as Johns Hopkins does not have an online portal where applicants can check their application status. This question has been answered:

and even post #263/#264 on this discussion thread. Just search a bit.

All international applicants were required to complete the International Student Certification of Finances form (http://apply.jhu.edu/pdf/2012/application_international_finances.pdf) and submit it prior to the application deadline. If you have yet to submit this form, you need to submit it immediately. To submit the form, download it, print it out, complete the form, and mail it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. We do not accept this form sent via fax or e-mail. Read the instructions as it explains what supporting documents must be submitted. Without this form, your application will be considered incomplete and we will be unable to review it for admission. Get this done now.

If you made an error, then you can send in a correction. However, if you want to just send in revised essays we do not accept that.

Also, do I need to include a letter explaining why I fail to submit my International Certification of Finances by the deadline (Jan 1)? I have to wait for supporting documents to be sent to me from Vietnam…

Thank you so much! This is excellent! It’s actually a really great option of JHU to offer to applicants. I think I’ll submit my application now then :)
