Hi everyone
I just got acceptance from Johns Hopkins Engineering Management program which is $39000 per year and Virginia Tech Management Systems Engineering masters which will cost $14000 since Im a VA resident.

What I’m curious about is that if it’s gonna worth paying that $25000 extra…?
Ranking wise they are on top each other in engineering but I’m not sure how the names will affect after I graduate or before I graduate…

save the money.
JHU is a great school, but saving your family that extra money will be better.
VT engineering is a great program and would look good on any resume

definitely VT, Virginia Tech is ranked about the same as Johns Hopkins and it costs a lot cheaper than you, you don’t gain an advantage by going to Johns Hopkins for engineering in this case so save the money

what I’m also thinking about is the job opportunities since I’ll need to work while studying… I don’t know the blacksburg area, the opportunities… etc…

I also got an acceptance from Poly NYU… n I know that there will be a lot of opportunities for jobs over there… but the thing is Poly will not look as good as VTech in my resume after graduation… BTW Poly is around $29K…

What should I do you think…?

I’ll be paying for my school n my life expenses… Im thinking if I go to NY and stay there and study at NYU I’ll have more chances to get a good job…
Another perspective is, after graduating from VTech, I’m sure that I’ll get a better engineering job compared to what I can get after Poly NYU…

Virginia Tech is very well known in the engineering community. My friend’s dad is a civil engineer in Boston and he recently hired a Virginia Tech student so VT engineers can find places everywhere, I think you’re better off with a VT degree than a Poly NYU degree

Thanks a lot for the posts. What I want to ask you right now is I want to move into Management Consultation…
The program in JHU is Engineering Management, which teaches you to manage people or org.z in tech environments…
whereas
The program in VT is Management Systems Engineering, which teaches you how to setup the management system…

Which program would be better to fit my career expectations?
Im also thinking about getting an MBA after this…

Keep in mind that living in NYC will also cost more (I’m unfamiliar with NYU housing policy) than somewhere in Blacksburg. Despite it being a small rural city, I’m sure there are work study programs or jobs available somewhere. There are bound to be with a University with that many students in town!

What kind of job do you think you’re going to find in NYC while you’re in school? I see lots of NYU students working as baristas in Starbucks–I’m sure there are some students who get better jobs, but I don’t think you’ll make enough to make up for the enormous costs of living in NYC. I’d go to VT–you’ll get a great education at a decent cost. And at any large university, there are going to be opportunities for students to earn money.
