JHU vs Duke vs Georgetown

Hey everyone, I’m pretty interested in these three colleges, but I’m not sure if I want to apply to all three and was wondering if someone can help me narrow down my choices and maybe eliminate one or maybe two of them. I want people to consider acceptance rate, campus(I love pretty campuses), finance, and social life. I did research myself, but I just wanted a second opinion on everything.

The three colleges are all pretty much reaches for me. I have over 4.0 GPA and over 2100 SAT score and I’m sure teacher and counselor recs will be good. I also have decent EC’s, not ones that make me look like I deserve an award, but I have a good amount of hours of community service, and leadership, commitment, and variety. So I’m not the BEST candidate for these three, but I’m at least a consideration.

I’m undecided in what major I want to go in, but my interests are Philosophy, English, Communication Rhetoric, and Cognitive Science. Pretty wide-spread, but yeah.

I live in Northern VA near DC, so Georgetown would be a good choice. But my family is low income so regardless, I would still be paying a lot. JHU is also a good choice, i would like to go here the most cause I feel like I would feel most comfortable there. Duke is my biggest reach and I’m only considering it because it’s like a why not college. I probably won’t be accepted, so I don’t know if I should still apply. Don’t want to waste too much time on a lost cause.

I would like people to tell me which college seems to fit me best. I want to be in a college filled with smart people, BUT i don’t want too feel overwhelmed. I want to be a bum in my college years (no hard partying, just relaxing) so I don’t want to be in a stressed environment. I’m also Asian American, and sometimes I do prefer having a close group of Asian friends.

What do you guys think? Which college should I knock from my list? I already have a general idea myself, but second opinions are also helpful :)

Disclaimer: I’m applying to JHU

it sounds like duke. It’s far away, expensive, not as good in philosophy (warning:non expert in philosophy), and with a smaller percentage of Asians. Also, you don’t really actually want to go there, which seals the deal (for me)

very very reasonable. Yeah, I talked with my teachers and I’m thinking of just applying to Georgetown.
Thank you!

These schools all offer aid, so don’t assume you will be graduating with tons of debt. Why not apply to all three? BTW, the stats of students at this level of schools are the same, so all the kids should be equally smart…

According to US News & World Report, Duke is 22% asian, while JHU is 21% and Georgetown is 9%, so Duke actually has the most asians of the three schools. And I agree with College Yahoo; it couldn’t hurt to apply to all, although, if anything, leave out Duke if it won’t fit academically
