JHU vs. UT vs. WUSTL

Want to DEFINITELY go Pre-Med
probably majoring in Mechanical Engineering (not 100% but close)
I do care about social activity on campus and surrounding area and prestige is a factor
HELP

JHU, do they all cost the same?

JHU. 10 char Whiting School of Engineering is ranked top 14, tied with Northwestern and Princeton’s undergraduate engineering programs. I’ve never heard of a MechE premed before… Are you sure you are able to handle that? It’s kinda ridiculous how many difficult classes you will have to go through in addition to the standard premed classes… You sure you can handle it?

I was confused, however, with the ME and premed.

ya i dont really know how well those will fit but as i understand GenChem Phys Calc and ENg are part of the degree reqs and the extras i have are Orgo and Bio…gonna talk to counselor hopefully to see if it will fit
i have a passion for both so we’ll see

But is the social life at JHU comparable to WUSTL (i know neither really compare to UT)
is there a general unity amongst students or is the student body segregated (by race, ethnicity, major, whatnot
social life is pretty important:
I am pretty outgoing like to go clubbing and party pretty consistently on weekends (not all the time though)
dont drink
might join a frat (who knows, mightnot happen since the no drinking)
like to meet new people

UT is cheapest (20k a year)
JHU and WUSTL both around 48k

JHU and WUSTL are not 120K over 4 yrs worth it. I would go to UT

bumpbumpbump

Help please

Both Hopkins and WashU are generally stronger schools than UT. UT is a very good public–but much larger and far less exclusive than the other two. If finances are a major consideration, than UT is certainly a reasonable choice.

Hopkins and WashU are peer schools and comparable in many ways. Academically, its not going to make a huge difference for undergraduate work. I think that Hopkins has a significant location advantage over WashU. Subjectively, I like Baltimore better than St. Louis but, more importantly, Baltimore gives you easy access to DC, Philly, and NYC. St Louis gives you easy access to…Springfield. Enough said.

thanks, anyone else have input

help plsssssss

come on, no one else?

I would pick JHU. Prestige wise, it does edge out both WUSTL and UT.
Socially, the scene at JHU maybe not be for everyone, so I suggest you check it out. But I do really enjoy it. The surrounding area is actually really fun. Baltimore has a ton of small quirky neighborhoods with their own flare instead of the traditional big city like NYC or Boston. There are sooo many different places to explore and check out and safety is really not a big deal unless you are clueless.

Academically, JHU and WUSTL will be close, though the caliber of professors, the academic rigor, and the potential for research will be higher at JHU.

thanks alot

If you are pre-med, you can work out the differences yourself. Med school will set you back $200k+. The difference between UT and the others is about $32k/year or a $128k over four years.

Assuming it is all loans, go to [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org), and find the loan calculator. You’ll quickly find out that if most of this is in loans, after you leave med school you will have far fewer choices in medical practice from JHU or WashU than you will from UT. If you and your family are comfortable with that, go for it!

(Austin is a much better student town than either St. Louis or Baltimore.)
