JMU Admissions class of 2024

I wonder what percentage of accepted students did not submit their SAT/ACT scores?

Yeah, I’m not sure… She thought she would of gotten deferred because she didn’t submit them… but she thinks her personal statement definitely helped her!

Son accepted. OOS. NJ. GPA 4.23, SAT 1270.

Unless they hire people to read essays don’t see how they could read all in 6 weeks

Does anybody know how the dorm selection process works at JMU? How do you get in line?

Daughter accepted. OOS. NY. GPA 3.7 UW, ACT 30

I have a current sophomore at Jmu. The students do not get to select a dorm, it is randomly assigned. You can select a roommate but not a dorm

Unfortunately I was deferred. I am extremely upset but hopefully I have a chance with regular admissions. Congrats to all who got accepted!

Son was accepted yesterday! Found out by checking portal. - no email yet.
OOS NY, GPA 3.53 UW, SAT 1240
Academics: 4 years Spanish, AP, honors classes ,Syracuse University level classes
EC: Eagle Scout, 4 years Theater productions, Student Producer, Sunday School classroom aide x 3 years; volunteer tutor; & plenty of community service.
Super excited as this has been his first choice!

did not submit sat. accepted with a 4.3 w.

DD accepted!!! 3.7 UW GPA (with honors and AP) and did not submit her SAT/ACT score. OOS. Worked hard on her essay, and strong ECs. I was surprised she was accepted and not deferred, as admissions rep told us they only look at grades/academic rigor. The one concern we have about the school is that she has Celiac and needs to follow a Gluten Free diet…the school advertises that it has great GF options, but we were unimpressed when we visited. Any input from current students welcome…

@ptptmom Let me see if I can get you some information.

@HappyNJ like @HHSsenior said, I do not believe students have specific options for housing requests, other than roommates, and applying to specific living learning communities.

Once a student has paid a deposit to matriculate to JMU, sometime in the spring semester the “onebook,” which is the step by step online part of the orientation process, takes students through the steps to request housing. All first year students are required to live on campus, and housing is guaranteed for first year students.

We did get a reply from JMU on the dorm question:

" Incoming first year students will have the opportunity to sign their housing contracts April 1. The assignments are not based on first come first serve. You will be notified of your assignment on August 1"

Has anyone received an acceptance packet in the mail?

We haven’t and were wondering the same thing? Does JMU send official admission packets via mail? Also, I confirmed with FA office that FA/Merit award information will go out in mid-march to ALL admitted students—so EA admits don’t get early view on their FA/Merit awards, which is unfortunate.

None yet

My daughter received notice that she was accepted on 12/16/19. We are from northern NJ.

3.77 unweighted GPA
1320 SAT
Class president, 3 varsity sports, 3 AP courses junior year (all 4’s) and three this year. We are waiting to hear about the merit scholarship she applied for but I read that we won’t get any notice until late winter.
We went to visit JMU this past summer along with a few other schools in Virginia and DC area. My daughter and myself loved JMU. One of the cleanest and friendliest campuses we visited.

Daughter was accpeted EA.

3.7 W GPA, 26 ACT

@ptptmom I received similar information from everyone I spoke to about gluten free dining at JMU.

First and foremost, everyone said to arrange a meeting with the office of Disability Services as well as the Nutrition Services staff that work for Dining Services. I’m sure you could schedule something in conjunction with your attendance at one of the “CHOICES” admitted students days.

On the old campus D-Hall offers a special safe food pantry and mini-kitchen for students with food allergies and Celiac disease. All dining halls offer gluten free options of some type, and all are supposed to carry gluten free buns.

I was told that E-Hall on East Campus offers the most gluten free options on a regular basis. Parents have mentioned that many Harrisonburg restaurants offer gluten free menu items as well. Campus Cookies is a popular local cookie delivery service that also provides a few gluten free cookies(choc. chip & snickerdoodles).
