JMU vs UCSB vs VT

As I wait for acceptances into the first two schools I’ve listed…I was just wondering, which school is the most well regarded academically? Also, I am concerned about campus life, student, and the campus itself. I plan on majoring in biology or business. In addition, last summer, I was able to visit UCSB and I must admit that it has a beautiful campus!

I don’t know if you are still wondering about this question, but I hope this helps. I’m also a prospective student to UCSB and VT. I live in Southern Califorina and UCSB’s vibe is typical SoCal. People walk around in bathing suits year round and party everyday of the week. Not everyone does of course, but a lot of people do. I’m not sure if you are aware that UCSB does not have a business major. It has a business/economics major that is much more economics than business, but if you are looking for straight business, UCSB is not a good place to go. On the other hand, UCSB’s science is very good. I don’t know anything about the biology departement, but you can do anything with a degree from UCSB. The school is looked upon favorably.

UCSB’s campus is beautiful, but remember that you are only guaranteed housing for your freshman year. You’ll probably spend the other three years living in appartements in Isla Vista. Make sure you like that culture before choosing UCSB. It is beachy and certain streets are almost constantly holding parties. There are casual restaurants and a few shops, but there isn’t much to the town other than students.

It’s programs are probably looked upon as superior to those offered at VT, but VT is a very different school environment. I’m not sure about UCSB’s comparison to JMU.

I hope this helps and good luck choosing a college!
