Joan Baez & Trader Joes

60’s icons Joan Baez (the 60’s folksong icon) and Trader Joes (the 60’s healthy food market icon) are both coming to the UCLA area.

Joan Baez will be performing at Royce Hall on Feb. 19th and all you lucky students get the student section and discount – go go go!

Trader Joes opened on Friday at 1000 Glendon, across the street from Expo in the new Casden apartment development.

Anyone who has parents (like me) who brought you up properly to appreciate the Pete Seegar, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez philosophy of getting off your can and speaking out and singing out for equality, peace, and all that, should run, not walk to grab your $14 tickets before they sell out.

As for Trader Joes, well, while your studying for finals and need to take a walking break, it’s nice to walk the aisles and pick up some tasty frozen dinner and nuke it in your dorm or find some brain food to snack on.

One more alert – Sparks. The Mael brothers (both of whom actually attended UCLA and lived in a Hilgard residence in the '70’s) will be playing Royce on February 14th – yep, Valentine’s Day. They were the '70’s response to a serious dearth in new music – aside from David Bowie, of course, who did have difficulty in his earlier 70’s years in the U.S. due to our complete aversion to questions of gender allegiance. Google “Kimono My House” as an example of their excellence. I used to periodically hang out Ron and Russ, and they were quintessentially cool. If you like intellectually quirky, you’ll love Sparks.

WHAT?!

There’s a Trader Joe’s in Westwood now?

Man, those jerks couldn’t have built one when I was there?!

no, of course not ;)

it’s in the new fancy-schmancy apartment complex, on the ground floor. didn’t open til the friday before break, so i’m looking forward to shopping somewhere besides ralphs :)

I second the not only shopping at ralphs thing XD
