Job descriptions - roman numerals?

<p>So on Port Triton and other places, many of the job titles are “Assistant IV” or “Assistant III”</p>

<p>Anyone know what the roman numeral at the end of the title stands for?</p>

<p>I think the numeral corresponds to pay grade.</p>
