Due to the economic recession, I was recently laid off from my job. I am currently looking to apply to law school for the time being and I have noticed on certain applications for different law schools that they ask you whether or not you have been “discharged” or “dismissed” from any type of employment. If the position was only for a limited amount of time (1-2 weeks), Is it worth disclosing this information on my law school applications? Thanks.

If you were laid off and not fired because of problems with your work, then it shouldn’t matter either way.

One thing to consider is that if you do go to law school and apply for the bar, the state bar association will likely ask you to list all your employment, and will also look at your law school application. All things being equal, it is probably better for them to match.

However, I’m not sure that your situation qualifies as “discharged or dismissed.” If you call the admissions office of the places you apply, you could probably ask without giving your name. No matter what, I highly doubt it will have any appreciable impact on your chance of admissions.
