Are CC and SEAS integrated into the same job fair/recruiting system or is each school separately catered to based on their respective majors?

you can go to any job fair that you want but there are specific ones for seas/cc

it is important to note tho that they are pretty useless for freshman. most of the companies there (at least from the 2 fairs i was at) didnt aim for freshman at all. finding an internship is usually done somewhere else from what i’ve noticed.

tho you can get some awesome free stuff from the recruiters there (like a free 1gig usb drive from hess i got)

About internships; what year does one usually start with a company and when you say “finding an internship is usually done somewhere else from what i’ve noticed” what exactly do you mean? Thanks.

From my experience (as a high school senior), internships in research are nabbed by just simply emailing a professor that is conducting research in something you’re interested in. They’ll tell you to come in and have an interview and if all goes well they’ll let you work there. (research internships are really really boring tho…)

For internships like the United Nations, financial firms (Merill Lynch, UBS, Bank of America-- some of the ones at my school), it’s primarily done through your own contacts. Find someone that already has an internship that’s around your age and ask them to introduce you to their mentors. My school runs an internship program for seniors so most juniors just get their internship by taking over the senior’s internships at the end of the year.

considering a research position as an internship is a bit of a stretch i think. especially if you are referring to an internship as a summer employment opportunity (one because they are unpaid [except in a few rare cases such as the earth institute] and two because you still have to find your own housing and whatnot which they dont assist you with)

i mean that internships arent found at the job fairs. what truazn said is somewhat correct, you will most likely be on your own for finding an internship, especially freshman year.

i dont know what you mean by the first part of your question tho…if you are asking like what year then it CAN be any year, its just very unlikely to be freshman year since you dont have any valuable skills yet. if you mean like what time of the year, that is up to the company.

finding an internship is hardly a guaranteed thing and you shouldnt be under the impression that you’ll have the same 1 for all 3 summers during college…
