Friend just landed a position with a Fortune 100 company, had a good job,but thought it was losing status in firm…now the kicker, great salary over 300k,complete relo package, with reimbursement for closing costs, realtor fees, temporary housing, bridge loan…deal includes car allowance of 900 per month, great health ins, annual bonus, defferred comp…why firms do this to find employees and bring them to corporate HQ’s seems kinda crazy…are there no qualified applicants in the area? This is a major metro area on the mid east coast,so i find it nuts that a firm would pay is much…the position is not a CEO,CFO,or other high level position, though it is not a mid level job either, kind of like a second in command job

Corporate profits approaching record highs, that is what.

Problem with corporate profits getting better is it isn’t getting down to the employees…it is upper mangement seeing the benefits…fwiw,we see the financial benefits of this, and feel somewhat bad about this…the US is creating a huge distinction between the haves and almost haves…the have nots are really in trouble…Middle class as we knew it in the 70’s and early 80’s is in dire straights…

Why are you telling me, I am probably at the bottom of the economic ladder. lol

If you are older, consider yourself lucky…it’s future generations who are going to be competing with the South American sweatshops for jobs.

I disagree. Most people will agree that it’s better to work for a company that’s profitable than one that isn’t because of the benefits to all of the positions in the company - not just the top. I’d be surprised if you haven’t experienced this yourself if you’ve been in the workforce for a number of years.

Companies that start to do better may start to give employees increases, may start matching their 401K contributions again, usually will start hiring more employees, usually will have more advancement opportunities for existing employees as the company grows again, etc.

Wal-mart is extremely profitable. So is Nike.

Probably whoever he’s replacing was let go 3 years ago or is now retiring since his 401K came back. Take the money and run with it…

And that’s good for all the people looking for jobs, people who want to move up in the organization as managers for new stores being opened are needed, new and expanded distribution center personnel, more supervisors, mid and higher level management needed, as well as all the suppliers for them, the truckers who deliver the goods, and more of the trickle effect.

The job market is good if you have a job. My D received a great package to switch jobs, relo, sign on bonus, etc. Now myself on the other hand, I’ve lost my job twice in the last 3 years, I have had few interviews. But I am optimistic.

Wal-mart is not known for it’s promotion of clerks and minimum wage employees. They are the closest thing to a sweatshop we have in the US. They move in, undercut small mom and pop shops putting them out of business, kill downtown areas requiring people to drive for their purchases, pay their people as little as possible, chain them into their stores at night, have incredibly restrictive rules for employees, are unfair to women and immigrants. There is NOTHING good about Wal-mart. But this isn’t a political discussion so I’m done!

Well, to the OP, clearly this IS a high level job, come on now, who are we kidding here? Really. Jobs like these don’t grow on trees, whether or not the job title isn’t CFO,CEO, etc. No doubt your friend is HIGHLY qualified to receive the package you have described.

My point was to highlight the ‘perks’ that are going to some, regardless of the current job market…as noted, this is not a ‘top job’ but a very good one, without question…not to long ago i read a post about how companies are scaling back on enticements to newly hireds ,saying they were lucky to even get an offer, let alone relo packages, car stipends, etc

I don’t shop at Walmart…

The person described by the OP is marching into a golden pedestal with a silver trap door underneath. The person has to be good enough to create value for the company. If not, he/she will be history in no time. Have no illusion about it, decision makers in the company are no dummies. They know what they are doing.
In answering the OP’s question, yes, high tech industry is on the way up. Most of them can’t make their product fast enough. Enjoy while the good days last, folks!

Went into a Walmart once, late at night, after midnight…i needed milk for the am,lookimg around i had more fingers then the 3 people in front of me had teeth…combined…
