Job opportunity for new or recent Electrical Engineering grad

I posted this in the engineering forum, but have not yet gotten much traction. Thought the moms and dads here might be interested in this.

I had dinner with my older s last night, who mentioned that he is in the position of helping to recruit an electrical engineer (upcoming or recent grad) for an intro engineering position at the corporate headquarters of his company. It is a large company headquartered in the SE. He enjoys working for this company. Pay and benefits are quite nice. The position has not yet been posted on their website, I do not believe (not 100% sure about this).

I don’t want to post too much here, and would prefer that you not send me a PM, as my box is always almost full. However, if you/your child is/are a recent EE grad or are about to graduate this spring and have excellent grades, perhaps you can post a bit about your child/yourself here and I can pass along to my DS or advise how to move forward in applying for the position.

My S knows a lot of his classmates who graduated with EEs from USC this spring. I believe S is one of the few who had a job when he graduated (tho he’s currently still awaiting his security clearance before he relocates & begins work). I’m sure he has many classmates who would be happy to apply & learn more. Some have gone to grad school but many are looking for jobs. Thanks for posting this to give them hope!

Great, HImom. This is on the other coast, but hopefully that is not an issue.

Folks from all over the world go to USC & many realize that there is a shortage of jobs so are willing to relocate (those who are from CA & the West included). S is from HI but is moving to DC–the recruiter was pleased that he had worked at NASA in Newport News the summer before, which showed to the recruiter that S was willing to move.

I think your S will have many interested applicants. I have been very impressed with USC’s engineering department (tho my S says quality varies, like everywhere else). He’s a critic anyways, but his peers got into many prestigous graduate programs (those who were interested). His lab partner had her pick of Berkeley, Stanford and others. She smiled & told us that S thinks & comes up with solutions/answers very fast.

They were quite generous with a relocation package.

The federal government has offered S help with his relocation expenses but somehow it seems pretty fuzzy (not sure if it’s S or them or some combination). Sounds like your S has a lot to offer some lucky EE and will have many attractive candidates to choose among.

Great news Himom! I have my email available for any serious candidates to contact me. I can then pass along info to my DS. This is a serious job opportunity at a very well respected company.

JYM626, my son will be graduating with his EE degree in May. He is actively looking for a job and has great references. I can have him email a resume if you like. Thanks

Perfect, dkitty!! I can pass it along to my DS!!

JYM, Okay, so I’m a little slow…how do I get his resume to you? :)

LOL, dkitty, Can you use the email function in CC to send it to me? I just sent you an email this way, so you should be able to send one back to me with an attachment. See if that works…

I just spoke to my DS and he confirmed that this job has not yet been advertised. Thus, they are in the enviable position of hand-picking the right person for the group. A strong, qualified candidate will be flown to Atlanta by the company for an interview. My DS can review applications/resumes and help put the right candidate on the “top of the pile” as it were.

It’s great that your S & his colleagues are in a position to pick the right person to join the group. It should help have very productive results! Nice that they will fly in the lead candidate for a personal interview–conference calls & Skype are helpful but there’s nothing like a face-to-face meeting to figure out whether things are more likely to “gel” or not.

I get the impression that more than oone cnadidate beign considered will be flown in for a day of interviews. My s went through a day of interviews when he was looking at his job.

He is in full support of my efforts to reach out to the cc community for resumes and contacts of potential candidates for this position. Looking forward to receiving emails/resumes from you cc’ers out there! I may alsoconsider reviving the cc job network thread I started a year or so ago and post this job there as well.
