Sorry, my boys are now launched so I haven’t bought their clothing for a couple of years.
I checked the tags of the shirts left behind in the closet (outgrown), but of course that style is no longer available for sale.
The tags read Flex Wrinkle-Free Thompson shirt, style K1670. It appears they were from J. Crew Factory. Good luck on your search.
Thanks for the link to the washable suit. I did not know that such thing was possible! I despise dry cleaning because I’m not convinced that anything becomes truly clean.
How does the fabric look?
Younger son needs to buy a new suit for weddings b/c he has added enough muscle that the expensive suit I bought him in college no longer fits. Thanks for the link.
The Bluffworks Gramercy suit is fantastic.
It looks like a regular ‘?almost wool’ looking regular suit, not that shiny-ish modern NASA-material suit.
It’s very light.
We bought it for Mexico City, so the cool-wicking was great. I had packed it in gallon ziplock bags, and it hung up fine/no wrinkle. He wore it at the airport and on the plane for his Superday.
He wore it a bunch of times for fraternity events and it was stinking. He had also spilled something/sauce on the cuffs. I did some Shout spray on the stain, threw it in the wash, and it came out perfectly. Just hung it up to air dry.
Never had to iron it.
Love the different size/fit selection, so the jacket+pants fit my short/stumpy-muscular/junk-in-the-trunk-tiny waist kid. Still had to have it shorten the sleeve length and a small pinch taken in at the waist (to fit his Dominican butt).
I’ll check out the Jcrew shirts. Thanks.
The B word is here…

The Newest Face of Long-Term Unemployment? The College Educated.
For years, only a small portion of the people experiencing long spells of joblessness were college graduates. That’s starting to change.
This is a great shirt. It also comes in a tailored fit which is not super tailored, but works great for my tall boys who are on the slimmer side and is great for a younger person. And it also comes in some great patterns. We probably own 15 of them in various combinations. They used to have a performance one that was an absolute dupe for the Peter Millar performance button down, but not sure whether they still carry that one.
GUYS! I just got a text from my S25 that he got an offer for a summer internship for next summer. He went to his first job fair week before last, that was a Thursday. They asked him to come back Friday for an in person 20 minute conversation with their recruiting team. Last Wednesday he got an email that the corporate HR people wanted to talk with him, he didnt see it until Thursday, and gave them available times on Friday. She didn’t see it until Monday morning but asked if he could have a Tuesday call. So they just talked and she asked him like two questions then offered him the summer internship.
It’s with exactly the company he most wanted to work for, in the location he wanted, doing what he wanted, and paying a good amount for his skill level.
I’m so stoked for this boy! Part of this is that it’s construction management, which is always looking for interested and talented people. But he’s also got a good resume, having done work in this area last summer (laborer on an excavation crew) and he’s an Eagle Scout, and he has a genuine passion for the job. I’m just so happy for him I had to tell SOMEONE but he wants to tell my husband himself, so this is the only place I could think to go.
Now if my senior could only be so lucky looking for a post-grad job….
I’m so thrilled to hear this news!!! Kudos to your son!!!
Congrats to your S @OctoberKate. That must be a great relief for you and sounds like a great opportunity for him.
Fingers crossed also for your senior.
jumping through so many hoops:
are applicants PAID for the full-day on-site work trial?
what about the time for the homework?
Not that I’ve heard.
It would be a tax form nightmare.
It’s the cost of application. I remember I paid to travel to so many - so that killed a day or two.
You don’t have to take the test. So it’s an optional thing, cost of doing business. No test no prob. They have lots of others to pick from.
I suppose that’s the mindset.
I am so glad you posted. Our 25 grad has been asked to do a 2 full day work trial as well during midweek. It’s really 4 days not in classes - a day to travel there and a day for the return trip. I don’t really care about S not being paid for the work trial, but the process seems like a lot. I realize we should not complain since interviews are not abundant as years past.
These are students. They should be more respectful. Like one day preceded by a night flight so you don’t miss.
Schools are torn. You are there to get a job and they want you to get a job.
I’m not sure I’d take that one under those terms tho. That’s too much. Quite disrespectful. I hope she’s the only candidate.
for my kids, I’d suggest they pass on that one. If they disrespect you this much now, then how about later when you are there ?
I guess it’s a good thing your kids are not graduating into today’s job market, then.
Maybe it depends how they phrase it. Is the work trial part of the interview process or further along? D19 was paid for training days (which she had to complete successfully to start the job).
Here’s another one:
they really require you to work half a day every weekend because what’s 5.5 days/week?
I’m just old, and haven’t seen these in my days…
so true!
My H’s last company expected everyone to be in the office on Saturday mornings. I thought it was ridiculous.
