Job Prospects for BioE

How are the job prospects for bioengineering? I’ve heard that it’s hard finding a job out of BioE and that it’s better to start with a more traditional discipline such as MechE or EE. Does UCLA provide a lot of opportunities for internships and jobs? Do many UCLA students studying BioE manage to find jobs after graduation without a M.S? Is it better to do bioengineering at UCSD or UCLA?

I’m having a difficult time deciding whether BioE would be a good fit for me. I really want to be able to find a job involving BioE but I’m afraid that many companies will not want to hire BioE people since they give preference to MechE and EE graduates.

What would be the best route to go in terms of finding jobs in Biotech at companies such as Genentech or Stryker?
