<p>How is the Class of college graduates of 2008 doing regarding job opportunities after graduation? I have a couple of friends whose son and daughters graduated this May and are having a very hard time finding jobs. They are wondering how are other graduates doing? We are in FL. and job opportunities here are very hard, most of them are willing to relocate but it has been very hard. Some of them are back home teaching summer camps or doing internships earning minimum wages.</p>
<p>I have many friends who graduated in June 2008. It’s very tough unless you have a technical degree (and even then, it’s still pretty tough).</p>
<p>My D just graduated with a CS degree and received multiple good job offers. She said most of the other CS grads she knows from her university (UCSD) also either have obtained jobs, gone on to grad school, or are waiting to head home, if from another area, before looking for a job.</p>
<p>I’ve run into a couple kids recently who are unemployed and itching. It seems like everyone who got a teaching degree has found a job, and just about everyone else I know is still looking. Ran into a GA Tech grad - business, I think - who is having trouble. My nephew in PA is also at loose ends - also some sort of business.</p>
<p>Wisconsin here. My S graduated in May with a finance degree and got a very good job with the company he interned with. His two roomies both engineering grads got good jobs also.</p>
<p>I spoke to a recruiter two weeks ago at a conference and asked him how things are going and he said it’s tough to find people. He’s looking for CS grads. We’ve hired three of them, the last one starts in September. It’s taken quite a while to find people. My son gets a steady stream of internships, jobs for grads, etc. via email from his school.</p>
<p>So DS has one month left on this internship. I am most tempted to ask you to pm me on these leads for my CS grad … but its no longer our business. DS has a couple of interviews setup but he is picky …and so far landed on his feet … and having a good time on these internships … I bet he is angling for another …</p>
<p>One of my friends works in San Francisco for a software company, another is starting graduate school in the fall. Another graduated with a Nursing degree and is taking the summer working in Dublin before starting her job search. Two are prepping for their Teach for America assignments (one in New York, one in the Bay Area). </p>
<p>Most of the rest are doing some combination of staying in school an extra semester (that’d be me – could’ve graduated, decided to stick in and do more grad school prep), temporary jobbing for income rather than any connection to what they intend their “careers” to be, moving home for a little while and traveling.</p>
<p>After excepting an internship in SoCal prior to enrolling into USC grad school, ds has decided to transintion the internship into a great full time job and forego grad school as the financial numbers just didn’t make sense. He is at a high end computer game development company after graduating from RPI with a double major(compsci/cogsci) dual minor(game development/philosophy). </p>
<p>He is uber excied about his job and seemingly bringing tons of knowledge learned as an under grad into the job. We have never seen him happier.</p>
<p>My son had a job within 3 weeks of graduation - the only downside is that he accepted a position in a smaller city on the opposite coast. He had been applying for jobs locally but many were with nonprofit agencies that have offices all over the country. When he did not get hired for the local position, the interviewer called him and asked his permission to forward his resume on to their other offices – he had calls from two other offices within 48 hours. He was pretty much told on the initial interview that if he could commit to relocating the job was his. </p>
<p>I’d note that my son graduated from a CSU - poli sci degree. He does have a significant amount of work experience. I’m happy because the job comes with an excellent health plan, including dental & vision.</p>
<p>All the CS graduates I know have jobs! ;)</p>
<p>And my kids’ other friends are all doing graduate school (as planned.)</p>

<p>Not only that, other majors have been tapped to fill CS jobs (which is what happened to my 2008 physics grad).</p>
