Since I missed the premiere, has it been posted online anywhere?

it’s on again tonight. pop the popcorn.

This show is not going anywhere if TLC can help it. Last nights show had 10 million viewers. Contrast that to 3.5 for the finale of Top Chef on Bravo or 5.5 for the finale of the most recent America’s Next Top Model on CW. These numbers courtesy of Entertainment Tonight. People will watch this train wreck in droves. Especially given all the publicity on Extra and ET, etc, as well as all the magazine covers. Gee whiz, Jon and Kate could say they need $100,000 per episode to continue and they could probably get it.

I saw the show in the American Girl store too, northeastmom, and I can’t believe that everything that day wasn’t given to the famly, gratis.Just like the trips to see Sesame Street Live (and viewing it from a private box and a private meeting with the characters afterwards) and the museum trip when the places are empty of other patrons, or business owners opening early or only allowing the Gosselins in; this family lives in an alternate universe! The only times they really have to interact is when they inflict all of the kids on unsuspecting passengers, trapped on an airliner, flying across country! We know that all of those “vacations’ are comped, because it’s great advertising-poduct placement- but why, why did they haul out to Hawaii to go through the “renewing the vows” spectacle? Yes, life with 8 kids is conducted on a larger-than-life scale, but with Kate barking out commands at everyone, no one seems happy. Thankfully, all the kids are out of training pants because I couldn’t stand another show with Kate lugging a bunch of potty chairs around airports again…
When I caught the last few reruns from last season, yes, Kate was making a huge deal out of " Get a good look at this bedroom now, because you are NEVER going to see it again; Under penalty of severe punishment! (What was THAT about??)”. I can certainly understand asking the kids to knock and wait for an answer- which I did with mine and I also do that when going into their rooms- but Kate made it sound like the kids would be boiled alive in the Jacuzzi if they defied her. But then, she seems to have a problem with talking before thinking. Next, they moved out of the last house and into the McMansion BEFORE even cleaning the old place or putting it up for sale!! When they went back, admittedly several months later to go through stuff they had left there, did anyone notice that Cara’s piano had been left behind? This was the piano that was the subject of an episode about music lessons for the twins (and included Kate issuing dire threats to the 'Tups about what would happen if they got fingerprints in the [ebony] finish!), where Cara got a piano and Maddy a violin. No more was ever mentioned about either instrument. So, there it was, fall and winter in PA, not exactly beach weather, and there was the piano, sitting alone in an unheated living room. And to think what my D and I had to sacrifice to get her a piano- and she is a music major! It’s a sure bet that someone donated that instrument, the same way they get everything, because that family has to have everything they want when Kate demands it, and now it has been abandoned. And while I’m not fond of Jon either, one has to give him props for tackling a move while caring for 8 kids under 7, while Kate is, well, as usual, not there; and you can’t tell me that she couldn’t have a) rescheduled her speaking engagement or b) changed the date of the move.
Did you notice Kate constantly talking about her “work” ? Wonder what will happen when her audience pool dries up? I can’t imagine her working as an RN again, unless the Spanish Inquisition comes back into vogue! And then, there was the go 'round with the crew installing the solar panels on the new house ( are we supposed to believe that they paid for all of that themselves? I think not!)- I was amazed that Kate had the nerve to be so openly rude and believe me, I was rooting for the guy who actually told her that she was being nasty!
Who were all of those people at the picnic pavilion setting up the party things? We’ve never seen them before! What about Jenny- the “nanny” who accompanied them all to Hawaii? She vanished too! And we’ve not seen hide nor hair of any of the “extended” group of people who used to help out and to whom Kate professed to be so fond of, including Beth? Was she exiled with Aunt Jodi and Kate’s brother (Jeff?).
I was quite surprised that the 'Tups were allowed to have “outsiders” at their birthday party since it’s been evident that friends outside of the immediate family were not encouraged (remember not allowing Maddy to talk on the phone to a friend who called?). But, after seeing kids lugging bags full of 8 gifts across the parking lot, I figured that Kate wanted to go for the gifts. One can only imagine what was said about gifts which didn’t come with a hefty price tag attached! And, they ate outside in a public place- what happened to disinfecting everything and not walking on carpets in a hotel? Little Aiden, who loved animals, seems to have been exposed to so much doom and gloom that he is afraid of the puppies and all of the kids are scared of getting dirty- they can’t even play outside without fear of being scolded for getting dirty. All that money, a lovely home and no laughter or joy in that household.
It bothers me to dislike someone whom I don’t even know, but since the couple made the decision to open their lives to the viewing public,I guess we now have that option. Kate gives the impression of being cold, self-centered and ruthless, not to mention rude, while Jon seems immature and not able to take control of his own business and life. And then they added 8 lovely children who are the real victims of their parents greed and stupidity. Did anyone notice Kate’s constant use of the word "paparazzi? Does she think she’s Angelina Jolie? None of this was even mentioned in any of the previous seasons, but now, here’s Kate, blaming her odd behavior on a couple of guys with cameras on the other side of the river (and we heard nothing nor saw anyone at all the while she was hightailing it into the party store, frightening the kids with her claims). Don’t worry about ruining your make-up, Kate, I’m sure there’s a cosmetic company who will donate waterproof mascara if you mention it on air…
I wonder what happened to Maddy’s violin…

I don’t understand how any parent tells a kid to never enter their bedroom. My kids got sick, got scared, etc. and needed us during the night. The first night my youngest did not come and get into our bed she was 5 1/2. (What can I say, our older 2 were sleepers and she was a pre-dawn wanderer. She was welcome to come slide in on my side, snuggle for a minute and then go back to her room.) How could you tell a kid they weren’t allowed to go to a parent after a nightmare? That just boggles the mind…

Well, was Kate serious, or was she just exaggerating? Did she mean, you have your bedrooms, and ours is off limits for playing? Don’t her kids feel secure enough that if they were sick, or had a nightmare they could go to mom or dad? Even she does not strike me as a person who would turn away her kid if he/she became ill, frightened, etc. I think she sets rules, limits, runs a tight ship, and definitely needs her “alone/personal time”, but she does does seem to love her kids.

The laws to protect child performers do not apply to Reality TV shows, so it will be likely that, years from now, we’ll find out that the bills for the sports cars, tanning, nasty looking hilites and haircuts and $400 purses for Jon to give to a girl he’s trying to impress, have left the 8 kids with nothing except a couple of lousy parents. Tell TLC that enough is enough!

Perhaps, but what comes across is a DO NOT VENTURE zone.
I just can’t understand that mentality. Should ther be a place in anyone’s home where a family member is not allowed to venture? Wierd , scarey. … not natural…

dragonmom, I hope that her kids understand what she means and know when she is saying something as a joke (even if there’s an element of truth to it). Perhaps she was serious, which is scary. I am hoping that she meant that her room is off limits for playing, but not for emergencies.

She had to invite outsiders, she has no one else left.

I was just reading that J & K are on the new cover of US magazine, and supposedly the article is not flattering about her at all.

I am not a fan of hers, but I am starting to think she might decide to end the show so she can crawl under a rock and hide for a while. On the post on that site somebody made a good point. She just said nationally that multiple parents have 3 x higher rate of getting divorce. Great for the kids to believe if there weren’t all 8 of us maybe mommy and daddy would still be together.

Jon said it great, because he does get it now, one day his kids will GOOGLE him and read all about it. I think if he really believes that you will see him hide under a rock for now. Maybe that is why there are no paparazzi following him like they do her.

I think that is what is best for all involved, but unless they stashed a lot of money away, and continue to get paid for old episodes that are put on the air I doubt that will happen. This is how they make a living, and it this show is some cash cow!

I wonder, do they get paid for repeats like a regular tv show?

I have no idea.

I think a show has to hit seven seasons for the actors to get residuals, but I’m not positive.

Then again she already is promoting her new book that will be released this fall so she really doen’t need residuals. I don’t recall the whole title but I do recall it is something like family love. It is about Holidays and recipes/traditions. I find it comical that it has recipes, b/c she has a personal chef…I guess the chef will give her the recipes that they use for their family. ;)

Off topic for a second, Bravo is bringing out another RHW this one will be in DC. I am excited for this, because these wives probably won’t be in DC, but either somewhere like Great Falls VA or Chevy Chase MD. I only say that because the wealthy clients that I know who live in DC, are very private and their neighbors are usually somebody connected high up in somebody’s govt. As a realtor I can’t wait to see which area they go after.

I thought actors get residuals as soon as it goes into syndication. I think I just answered the question, the show will never be picked up for synndication, thus no residuals. I remember one actress (I think it Shannon Doughtery) who stated she lives off of her residuals from 90210 and Charmed. Since she was only on Charmed for 3 yrs, I think that is why I am assuming it has more ot do with syndication than anything else. Wasn’t that also a reason for the writers strike, because they weren’t getting pd residuals?

As far as the Gosselin kids isn’t there a law that states any salary the kids make a certain percentage must be put into a trust until they hit 18?

I never watch SNL, so I missed this one, thought I share it,

I was also saddened when I saw the show. But it isn’t any different than what I have seen - people are changed by money. I have seen friends all of a sudden not friends because we can’t afford to do the same thing - go out to the expensive restaurant or buy the expensive wine at dinner. People change because of fast money. And that is what has happened here. Kate was on what she thought was a fast track to financial security - too bad it left her whole family behind. John is just as to blame - he checked out. It is obvious that when she is home, he is not and when he is around - she is off doing her thing. I don’t think they could have foreseen this coming. But in the end, they are different people and they have grown apart and I believe the marriage is over.

As far as bashing Kate because of the tanning / nannies / touring. There are literally thousands of families that live like this on a daily basis. How do you think 100% of Hollywood lives and the wealthy families in America. There are many kids right here on CC that were raised by nannies or have attended boarding school - not your local township school. Money can be a very evil thing and when it comes extremely fast it is even worse. I feel for that entire family and I don’t believe that tearing Kate or John apart limb by limb will help anything. I am doing what I think I should do - I am keeping the entire family in my prayers.

Those kids are so cute, do you really believe that she is that bad? i just can’t for some reason. I think you have to really know what is going on. I have an ex friend who is rather nuts, but very practiced at it, unless you know her you would might not figure it out. Her H and Kids don’t really like her. anyway she has managed to turn a couple of people against me, I can’t fight it. I know what she is like and how easy it is to believe her. It is frustrating because I can’t fight it I just have to accept it. I don’t know how you deal with that on a larger scale. I would crawl under a rock and hide. I think she is so caught up in it, she doesn’t know which end is up. She would need to step aside to get perspective. She admits to being “confused”
