Can anyone give me some information about John Marshall? Waiting to hear from some other schools but want to know more about this one. Got an acceptance a few weeks ago.

John Marshall (Chicago or Atlanta, I’m guessing you mean Chicago) is a for-profit law school, one of the few in the country. That means its goal is to make money. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but many question the motives of for-profit education.

John Marshall is generally considered nothing more than a degree factory. Many question whether it should be accredited at all. Employment prospects for John Marshall graduates are usually slim. I personally know a John Marshall graduate who never got a job that even had a JD requirement. She still has loans that are unpaid. And she graduated in the height of the economic boon.

I don’t know what your motives are. Are you talking about you or a child of yours? It’s unclear from your post and you are a parent.

If you/child are looking for lucrative (or non-lucrative) employment opportunities, I would not advise attending. If you can spare the full costs and want to attend primarily to attain the status of a law graduate, then it makes more sense.

I hope that helped. If you give more on your situation, I can try help you out more. I would generally advise strongly against attending John Marshall, but circumstances always play a role.

JMLS in Chicago is not a for-profit law school. It has been around as a private, non-profit law school for over 100 years and there are no issues involving its accreditation and I do not know anyone in the legal community who has ever questioned its motives, believes it should not be accredited, or has called it a degree factory. It provides a quality legal education and actually has ranked programs in trial advocacy, legal writing and intellectual property. Nevertheless, it is like many law schools that are not in your high ranks for which students can face some difficulty finding employment after graduation particularly when the legal economy is poor as it is right now.

My bad: Atlanta’s is non-profit and had the accreditation murmerings. I’ve always seen John Marshall listed as a non-profit, and figured it applied to both. Thanks for clearing that up.

John Marshall seems to have a decent record in the public sector.

It’s the worst law school in Chicago. I wouldn’t recommend it.
