Is this very competitive? Would this help on one’s medical school resume/application?</p>
<p>I’m sure that it is pretty competitive if it is only open to a few students per cycle. No, it isn’t going to make you some godlike applicant and pave your way to Johns Hopkins. It is only two weeks, but I’m sure it is a great clinical experience in conjunction with other longer term clinical experiences. You could potentially add it to your application, if you don’t have anything better to replace it with by the time you apply. It might be useful if you are looking for long term experiences, possibly one of the physicians that you work with would be willing to let you do something with them long term (research, volunteering, shadowing).</p>

<p>If you ask me, reading that, this sounds more like just a cool opportunity than anything else (The minimum GPA of 3.3 doesn’t scream very competitive). To use their own words:</p>
<p>These tutorials are full-time, non-credit clinical or surgical shadowing experiences, and are directed to students applying to health professions school with the intent of enhancing their exposure to medicine and their understanding of their motivations for seeking entry to the field.</p>
<p>Sounds basically like a 1 week shadowing experience. We had those at my undergrad too except we called them externships.</p>
<p>A lot of your questions have focused on “does this look good to med schools.” It’s not the actual experience but what you get from the experience that matters. I’ve seen some applicants make the most mundane experiences sound awesome and I’ve seen applicants inadvertently downplay very impressive achievements. </p>
<p>This is a 1 week shadowing experience. If all you do is shadow, then it’s just another clinical experience. If you make some connections and turn this into a long-term shadowing project or if you get involved in research with one of the physicians you meet, then this experience will have become much more.</p>
