Johns Hopkins Class of 2019 RD Applicants!!

@Ambitious19‌ Lol. I was wait listed by WashU,but got into NW and Vanderbilt. The randomness is real.

@AnnieBot omg congrats!!! NU is a super amazing school :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: A lot of my friends at various colleges always have something to complain about the school, but my friends at Northwestern have nothing bad to say! Perfect balance of academics + social life + sports.

@Ambitious19‌ Thank you! But I’m holding out for Johns Hopkins!

Has anybody else gotten a phone call from admissions?

@c0nman You got a phone call from admissions? That’s awesomesauce!

@c0nman What did admissions say?

Got offered a full-ride

Congratulations!!!

@c0nman Congrats!! I didn’t know Johns Hopkins did a “likely call” sort of thing!

@c0nman Congrats that’s great!

@c0nman Congrats!!! that’s so amazing!

Ugh why does JHU have to release during school. At least it’s during the only blowoff class I have so I won’t be distracted during something important. (I’ll be plenty distracted though) and my best friend and co-val is applying too this is nerve wracking

@c0nman‌ Congrats!

@hopefulperson‌ I know right? Hopefully I won’t have much to do this week for school so that I have time to pray and wait.

Preparing for a rejection. I’ve cried for 2 weeks about it and I could use some support. I’m just really worried. It’s released right before I go to work and I refuse to check until after I get off.

@gummyworms57‌ Here’s what @jamesjunkers‌ said in the Cornell discussion forum about colleges (I changed “Cornell” to “Johns Hopkins” and other words, but this post applies to pretty much every college out there):

“By coming on CC, you’ve basically acknowledged that you have a shot at Johns Hopkins, or whatever your dream school may be. Keep in mind, these are some of the hardest schools in the country - if not the world - to get into. Only a select few of the thousands of applicants applying are given the honor of an acceptance. As much as it sucks, in 3 days from now, the majority of us are not going to hear what we want to hear. Dreams will be crushed. Tears will be shed. But as much as you loved Johns Hopkins, you’ll find another school to love. I’m sure you’ve all been accepted to some wonderful schools that the majority of students would die for. Don’t take this for granted. You are the smartest of the smart. You are the most motivated. You are the future of America. So yeah, when we open our decisions in 3 days, some of us will be given the opportunity of a life time, while some of us will be heartbroken. To those who are accepted, congratulations! That is so amazing. But be kind to those rejected / wait listed, be careful of what you say. To those rejected, I’m so sorry. But you have to move on. If Johns Hopkins is truly your #1, you can consider transferring, but don’t waste your freshman year hoping you’ll go to Johns Hopkins. Maybe the rejection will turn into a good thing - maybe the school you choose will be the right place for you. To those wait listed, you have a tough decision in front of you. Do you want to keep up hope, or do you want to move on? Nearly everyone wait listed is ultimately rejected, do you want to take that risk, or do you just want to find a different place? Again, best of luck to all of you. Win or lose, we will all end up where we belong.”

Hope this helps!

Looking for some support (or truth) here. I initially applied to JHU with a small hope of an acceptance letter, but as the decisions date is getting closer, I have absolutely no confidence whatsoever. I have such a low ACT score compared to other applicants, and I feel like that just absolutely ruins any chance of getting in.

ACT: 32 (32 E, 34 M, 31 R, 32 S)

Do you think the adcoms will overlook this? I only took it once (June 2014). I’m really regretting not taking it a second time to perhaps increase my score. Ugh.

@Vutmarie‌ I was stalking chance threads from last year, and I saw a few people with SATs in the low 600s who were accepted, so you should be fine. Don’t stress! :slight_smile:

@pianogeek‌ You have no idea how much that means to me. Do you know which major they applied for though? I applied for Bio, so I hope that mediocre science score doesn’t affect my decision…

@Vutmarie‌ no idea sorry, I checked it last year, but if your grades in rigorous science courses are great, then those should significantly overshadow the science score (not that it’s even bad in the first place!)

@pianogeek‌ unfortunately I’m taking Biology AP this year, so I won’t have an AP score send in to overshadow that, but I did take Anatomy last year and got an A+ average for both semesters. I also took two semesters of Physics at a nearby college with other college students over the summer and got an A for both semesters… Will that count for something? Sorry for all of the questions.

@Vutmarie‌ lol the reality is im just another applicant like you. We are all waiting in the dark. I know you want a concrete way to quantify your achievements, test scores, etc, and I do too, we all do, but unfortunately there simply is no way. The only concrete thing is what comes out in two days- decisions!
