Johns Hopkins Class of 2020 RD Forum

Same boat. Sad!

.

could i still do biomedical engineering if i only applied as biology?

I don’t know if you can transfer into BME but even if possible it will not be easy. If you truly want to study BME I suggest you attend another university (preferably a well respected one) if rejected by JHU BME. However, JHU biology is superb and may be a better fit for you. Who knows? If you really like JHU just go. Trust yourself in making the best decision possible

So right now I know I want to major in neuroscience if I go to JHU (which is looking like a really big possibility). I’m also thinking of possibly majoring in Public Health as a double major. I know that a lot of JHU students double major, so I know doing so must be pretty popular. Do you think double majoring in Neuroscience and Public Health is a good idea/doable, also considering I want to take a pre-med route, or am I spreading myself too thin? Would really love to hear your thoughts!

@allthingstesla I think it’s a good idea…mainly because I’m also planning to major in Neuroscience. I have yet to find my other double major, but I’m pretty sure Public Health is a good pairing.

I think taking the pre-med route is a safe plan. That is, as long as you can handle the pressure and stress that comes along. But then again, I don’t know you well. What does your parents think about this? Also, def. talk to your advisor(s) for any advice or help :3

Good luck!

@lixinhui2004 You have good raw stats, but I am assuming you lack major awards on the national/international level. These are crucial to bolster your chances for elite schools. Good scores and GPA simply won’t cut it nowadays.

@Grapess Thanks for the input! I’m definitely considering it, but I’ll think about it more once I finally decide where I’m headed to. It’s cool that you’re also planning on majoring in neuroscience! I think it’s a really interesting subject.

what are some good questions to ask / talk about with a student during lunch?

anybody want to enlighten me on the dynamic / experience of lunch w a current student?

how much free time do you usually get, after studying and classes are done?

Is there a group on Facebook or any other medium for the JHU Class of 2020?

Help! Am I in danger of getting recinded or a warning letter for these grades?

Keep in mind, I did apply for a bio major at Hopkins. Never had a B before so when they say “same level of academic rigor as reflected in your application…” I feel like I don’t meet this requirement…

I sincerely don’t think that a couple B’s in your senior year will be of any concerns to JHU. In any case, it will be out of your hands anyway so focus and do your best until graduation-day. Do discuss your concerns with your teacher and guidance for any opportunity to do extra work/credit. Focus on what in your control. You will be more productive in any case.

Do i have to bring a sleeping bag to SOHOP??

@prospect123 Yes, you should.

Hey guys! So i am been out of the country for a while right now (for serious personal reasons) and my parents are the only one at home in the U.S. right now. They are pretty bad at English so they dont know much of what comes in their mails. Is there anyone who can photocopy their acceptances and send it to me so i can show my parents what the letter looks like to see if they have gotten any? Thanks!

@Adella Really???
Why don’t you tell your parents to send you a picture of any document sent by school you applied to that start with “CONGRATULATIONS”…, or send you all docs via postal package or you log into your secured college portal. There are many ways you can handle this without asking others to send you their personal info (PRIVACY AND IDENTITY ISSUES).

@Adella If you log into the decisions portal there is an exact copy of the letter that they sent out by mail.

@IfnousWHO I’m sorry if you thought I was trying to steal someone elses identity. I never thought of it that way. And yes. I have in fact tried to solve this myself like logging in, emailing admissions, etc. And please don’t assume every person has a phone that can send pictures… I already feel bad for asking people here to help out. Youre making me sound as if I’m a bad/ ignorant person.
